Need help/advice about cd-player for Martial Arts dojo

    Hi,

I'm looking for some expert advice on setting up a new CD-Player for a martial arts dojo. Currently, the school is using a Sony 5-disk DVD player, but it's failing for several reasons:

    1) 5 discs is not enough.
    2) It takes a long time to read a CD (perhaps because it's a DVD player first)
    3) The device is not working properly.

So this is what I need:
    1) CD-Player that will quickly ready and play CDs.
    2) Player must hold more than 5 discs.
    3) Some of the instructors like to create playlists on their personal MP3 players or iPods, so I need a way to quickly and easily plug in a portable MP3 players and play music to the speakers.

Toward this end, I bought a Pioneer PD-F407 25-Disc CD-File Changer. But this is not working because:
    1) There's no Aux input, so I can't plug in an MP3 player to it.
    2) The output on this machine has audio Line Out for a Left and Right. But the existing speakers in the dojo are using a completely different type of cable I have never seen before. The speakers are already mounted and the wires run all around the building, so I really don't want to replace them. It's hard to explain, but basically, the speaker has two little tabs on it. The wires are in pairs and you push down the tab on the speaker and insert the exposed end of one wire into each tab. On the other end, the two wires are inserted into a sort've cap which is inserted into the back of the DVD player.

    So my question is...
Is there some kind of switch or adapter I can get so that I can adapt the speakers to fit the CD player I bought and also be able to attach an MP3 players?

Or, should I return the CD Player and get something else, and if so, what should I get?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. I'm a bit lost.

Shecky, a CD player cannot power speakers. There must be an amp too, right?

The Sony must have had a built in amplifier. The Pioneer is a stand alone player and needs an amp. You may be better off function wise but not cost wise, using a harddrive type of device whether a server or computer. Then just rip the CD's to the harddrive and they are there on the harddrive to play again or create playlists. I'm sorry to say you will still need to deal with getting an amplifier. If you think the Pioneer will do the trick just pick up an integrated amp or receiver to drive the speakers.

You plug the CD player into the receiver then connect the speakers to the receiver. The receiver provides the amp section and volume control.

I guess a Sumo amp would be stretching things a bit....?

    AA, rim shot!

Poppa, we must have been typing at the same time. I suspect they had a HTIB since it drove the speakers and the changer was a DVD player.
