    Scratch-Up DVDs

I have four kids at home and they treat DVDs like a frisbee. You are not going to believe it, but I saw my wife used my favorite DVD as a coaster so the the drink would not stain the coffee table. Some of them won't play anymore. Some play with some interference. Is there some way to repair these DVDs. Some of them are pretty new. Any advice will help.

    Buff'em up

Seriously. I've had the same thing done to my CDs, including some that are OOP. Once, I used some Turtle Wax polish and buffed the crap outta one CD and it took most of the scratches out. And it worked! As long as the scratch isn't on the painted side of the disc, light buffing shouldn't hurt (hold the CD up to the light and if you see daylight through any of the dings and scratches; if you do, you're screwed)

Just be careful you don't press so hard as to warp or crack the disc. Lay the disc on a towel, and use a good buffing cloth like a shammy or something. Test your cloth out on a disc that maybe isn't that important to you first, then try it out on your more valued stuff. You don't want to introduce more scratches. Do not use anything like a Dremel tool or any high speed polishing tool, just good ol' elbow grease.
