Depending of course on how much power you're looking for, I would recommend the following A-V receivers:

    Marantz SR6001 (100w RMS x 7) - $1199.00 list
    Marantz SR7001 (110w RMS x 7) $1399.00 list
    NAD T754 (90w RMS x 7) $ 999.00 list
    Rotel RSX 1057 (75w RMS x 7) $1299.00 list

I have the Marantz SR5600 (90w x 7) and am very pleased (with B&W DM603S3's plus ASW600 sub and M-1 surrounds). You may want also consider Arcam & Denon.

Woops, I presumed you meant an A-V surround sound receiver. Sorry. I thought I was in the Home Theater forum. For two channel, the same brands have good choices as well. Sorry about that.

You might also want to check out this receiver. Smaller company, but known for great service, high-quality, and solid amps for driving difficult speaker loads:

I second the Outlaw brand. They are well worth the money. I'm thinking of selling my Adcom GFR-700 and buying the Outlaw amp and preamp. If you want only a 2 channel receiver check out their receiver (RR2150) for $600. It would sell over $1000 in stores. I've read nothing but good things about it and it has a nice Vintage look to it.
