    Boombox recommendations?

    Hi...

My old panasonic boombox is on the fritz and is ready to be replaced.

    Any recommendations?

    Usage...

This is mostly for the bedroom...usually played at sleep time but occasionally
    for other functionality. :-)

Some portability would be nice too...a handle, etc.

    For CDs and radio...

Consumersearch.com's top pick is the Cambridge SoundWorks CD 740.

At $350...it is more than what I would like to spend. (Under $200)

I know I'm not going to get audiophile sound quality in that price range but
I'm looking for something affordable with decent sound.

The JVC KAMBOOM models are really hideous looking.

But if I was convinced there was some good sound in there, I would be consider.

Consumersearch's best value model is the -- Teac SR-L50 at $107.76.

I've read mixed reviews about the sound quality.

So I guess I'm looking for that magic...BANG FOR YOUR BUCK...model.

Your thoughts/suggestions would be much appreciated!

    Thank you,

    -todd amodeo

well, even though you might think the JVC kaboom models are ugly, they sound great...

oh well, most makers have gone with crappy sounding mini-systems nowadays, but JVC continues to make boomboxs that are actually good! (there are 2 in my family right now.)

I have a JVC Kaboom box, and I love it. It sounds better than any other boombox on the market, and it has tons of features.

It even has a casette deck! Does anybody even make one with a casette deck these days???

It's also got an Aux input, which I use to plug my iPod into. And it takes MP3 CDs, etc. You can even plug in a mic or a guitar and mix it with the music for Karaoke, jamming, and so on.

You name it, this thing has it. And most importantly, the sound is wonderful.

Just buy one, and forget about the looks.
There's an audiophile born every minute. Congratulations; you're right on time.

    Right on...

Thanks for all the good suggestions/opinions.

Yes...looks are at the bottom of my list. :-)

Any particular JVC models? (Looking them up now...)

I'm seeing ones on Amazon ranging from $179 to $279...

Well, I may have answered my question. (I did say under $200)

    :-)

The $179 is the all grey JVC RV-NB10W Kaboom Boombox.

    Guitar input! Neato!

Thanks again for all your input!

Get the biggest Kaboom they have (i think the one you list is the good one or maybe even the only one) , stay away from cheap JVC Kaboom imitations...theres lots out there, the Kaboom actually sounds better than many "rack systems" that cost a lot more than a Kaboom itself. Trust us on this one...you wont be sorry.
