    Newbie needs some advice

    Hi All,

I am looking at getting a Home Theater for my X-Box/Bar/Hang Out area.

I have an aquaintance who has a system that is about 6+ years old that he is trying to sell. It consists of:

2 Polk Audio RT800i front speakers
    2 RT35i Polk Audio rear surround(bookshelf) speakers
1 CS400i Polk Audio center channel speaker
    1 Polk Audio PSW10 subwoofer
1 Denon AVR 1802 receiver plus all cables to connect except speaker wire

He wants $750 for this........is this reasonable? Too High? Good Deal?

    thanks for your help

You can get the Denon AVR 1802 for $250
    http://www.etronics.com/p-85736-deno...3637303233313&

Polk Audio RT800i used are about $350

RT35i Polk Audio used for $150

CS400i Polk Audio used for $150

Polk Audio PSW10 new for $100

So, that's $1000.00 total without interconnects. If you like the way it sounds and like the equipment, the price is OK.

My only concern would be the receiver. My experience with Polks is they are a difficult load to drive. This receiver has 80W/ch, which to me is just on the low side for the Polks. I had a JVC high-current 100W/ch receiver which a pair of Polks shutdown at a conservative volume level several times. Denon makes good receivers. If you don't plan to "crank" it too much, you'll probably be OK. The receiver provides all but the very latest audio formats (HDMI required), so should be good for many years.
