    If money were no object..........
If money were no object, what gear would you buy AND would you put a limit on the amount you would spend to get your system like you really want it? And last, what are some Brand Names and Model numbers you feel you would have to have?

... on "diminishing returns"? I believe you're suggesting that even the very well-to-do might decide that there is a point beyond which spending more is just silly. Florian's Apogee system is pretty ideal for me but might be a case of going over the top

That said, I'd be willing to spend plenty. For a stereo system, perhaps Magneplanar 20.1's, triamped with Pass XA Series amps, driven by a TacT RCS 2.2 XP preamp. My principal sources would be an Apple music server with big, network-attached storage device, plus a really good SACD player, like say the dCS Verdi Encore.

and as a tribute to Henry Kloss & big rescue operation (preventing them from being threwn away like garbage) i'd buy myself a 100 pairs of advents, restore them if needed, find the best matching amp for them, use 2 or 3 pairs, and store the others for later use...

don't forget a house to put them in...

I thought I wanted definitive technology speakers(7000), but I demoed them and they pretty much suck.. so I'd say I'm pretty close to where I want to be on a solid state system, maybe some fancy speaker wire and interconnects to get the system 100%.

I'm also debaiting on a sub.. I'm thinking about the aurasound ns18 in a small (8-10cufoot) box, kind of like the wilson audio xs, just not as much xs.

I think if I have another 50k to toss at a system I'd get a fancy tube amp and some hand built ariels to go with it. of course a michell turn table that would probably push me over 50k.

If money were no object i would pick up a pair of the Sonus Faber Stradivari Homage. Two of the Classe Omega Omicron Mono's, a Classe Omega Pre-amplifier MK III, and a Linn Majik CD player

I'd keep my current speakers and get a ballroom and electronics.

You want state of the art? Top this:

    * Dual pure analog Reel to Reel
    * Integrated room correction w/ variable stepped equalization
    * Twin band OTA sensor w/ fixed point reference
    * Two way coincident acoustic suspension speaker array
    * Modern, low profile aesthetics (eat your heart out B&O)

I've heard the Von Schweikert VR11's ($165,000) and they're in a whole different league compared to this.

    Greetings,
    Bert.

    Sure things,

Transport would be Goldmund Eidos Reference
    Turntable would be Goldmund T3F-Reference
Preamp would be Vacuumstate RP3D 2005
D/A Conversion and Room correction, phase and time alignment with Tact RCS 2.2XP
Fully 4 way computer crossover is built into speaker
Double Kronzilla Poweramps on Midrange ribbon (250Hz to 8KHz)
Sphinx Project 26 Monoblocks on Midbass ribbon (70Hz to 250Hz)
8 dedicated powerlines with 26A coverage in phase
    All cabling from Magnan

    Something like that...

The speakers are irreplaceable, the powerlines come in March i hope. The correction unit is already here and founder of Vacuumstate is a friend.

You make my own audio aspirations seem humble and insignificant. Now I can much more easily justify spending mucho money on components. Thanks, I think :sosp:

For me it would more of how the gear was installed, Custom built home, with a 50 person seating HT. HT seating chairs with Bass shakers installed in each chair. The main listening room would have all of the gear either 1. custom built closet (fully AC'd) and the walls in the room have cut out for the speakers to be flush with the walls (the maggies would look more like art than speakers) or 2. Have a false wall holding all of the gear once again keeping everything flush. The cat walk area would need to be about 5' wide and AC to keep it all cool, the whole house be fiber optic wired with ethernet connection in each room. I properly go with a full McIntosh system just for the cool blue lights behind the analog meters.
