HDCD feature on my new dvd player
Santa gave me the Panasonic F87 5 disc carousel for Christmas. It has a feature called High Definition Compatible Digital (HDCD). The manual doesn't say much and Panasonics web site talks about HDCD as making normal cd's sound better, or atleast that is the way I read it. Upon reading from their site again for this feature to work do I need a different HDCD compatible cd or is this HDCD for the DVD-Audio part. Sorry for this stupid question. Any info on HDCD would be appreciated.

    Hey Cam,

Actually, HDCD is older than either sacd or dvda. Chances are you probably have at least a couple HDCDs in your collection already, you just weren't aware of it. check on the back for the logo. They sound nice, but its not a huge difference.

Actually, you don't have to go by the logo alone. At Headfi.org there is a thread listing a great many CDs that are HDCD that do not carry the logo anywhere on the packaging. You just need to look for the little indicator light up on the player.
