That's the best sound I've ever heard... So good that listening to a recording of a song played on the YG's makes my laptop speaker sound better than a pair of Soundlab U1s....

Go on down the list...there are plenty of speakers and gear to listen to....this is great!

I agree....so far they are the best I've heard as well. There are some single driver horn speakers playing some Metallica that I am impressed with being only one driver.

Frenchmon, I didn't realize you were serious about evaluating the sound of a system from youtube vids.......

Even assuming that youtube quality plus my computer's soundcard makes all the vids sound equally crappy, recording differences alone would make comparisons between rooms meaningless....

EDIT: But if you are just watching the vids for fun, then that's totally understandable...

That is pretty amazing for a Metalica disk.

It's bold advertising - indeed. I didn't hear the best in the world at CES but it's not like most of us can afford them anyway so it's a little moot.

Personally, I like guys who use $90,000 integrated amplifiers like the Ongaku SET amplifier and run it as a guitar amp and homemade electric guitar through a not inexpensive set of Audio Note E loudspeakers . That to me is just more fun to see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c7WZ_db2zVg

I'd recognise the Audio Note Office anywhere... lol.... Clearly he must have worked there (or is facing some prison time for breaking in to play his guitar)....

Rich, I agree with you 100%. I wouldn't spend my time looking for the best sound. I would like to hear the most affordable sound. Even if it's on the extreme outer limits of affordable. Even if I hit the lottery, I'm not going out and buy YG Accoustics or MBL101's or whatever. I may not even like the way they sound. To me good sound and money don't go hand in hand.

I was not that serious when I wrote that first posting, but I did notice none of the speakers sounded alike through my earphones. Some did sound pretty good compared to others. I think they where recorded by the same guy because he did speak to a few of the representatives. I could get some sort of idea what the speakers MIGHT sound like from past experience of listening to speakers. The YG Acoustics sounded like they would be a very very detailed speaker with plenty of air around each instrument....the single drive speakers sounded like they would have a very wide dispersion of sound for only one driver...the horn loaded speaker that I teased MrP about sounded like they where not as detailed a speaker as the YG Acoustics...had a wide dispertion of sound...and they sounded more like a fuller sound than the Klipschorn with a better bottom end....I would love to hear each speaker in person to see if what I interpreted was close to what I could tell from the clips....

I looked at the measurements on Soundstage.com for the main module, and they are very good, indeed. And Stereophile and Soundstage do report they sound excellent. I'm sure they sound very fine, but so do lots of others.

    http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/mea...f_main_module/

On the other hand, they don't measure notably better than my own Paradigm Signature S2, v. 1, speakers, and looking at the Signature S1, v. 2, measurements, they don't look any better! The distortion measurments are about equal, and if you go up to the S2, they are better. The distortion does not look troublesome, but still, at that price . . .

    http://www.soundstagenetwork.com/mea...gnature_s1_v2/

With a big subwoofer from Paradigm, Hsu, or some others, one could easily outperform the YG Acoustics speakers in the deep bass.

So, even if I won the lottery, the YG Acoustics speakers wouldn't be on my audition list, as they don't seem to be a good value for the money--except for the prestige factor.
And I'm not really interested in that sort of prestige. In philosophy, maybe . . .

Why not take a trip to San Francisco at the end of July. Dagogo is hosting a new, hopefully, yearly show in the summer there and tickets are something like $10 for three days and, unlike other shows, is open to the public not just dealers/distributors. http://www.caaudioshow.com/

    measurements

"On the other hand, they don't measure notably better than my own Paradigm Signature S2, v. 1"

measurements will only tell you so much. its the listening that is the final arbiter. early solid ste electronics MEASURED way better than the tubed predecessors but mostly sounded like crap. even a friend of mine gave his tubed fisher receiver to his sister upon purchase of his new transistor unit.

about a week later, he traded her for the tubed unit back.

YGs should be quite accessible to hear, at least in the larger population centers like LA. of course, it would be nice to have that kind of dough and choices.

It never fails to surprise me how crappy the music is at audio shows.
Of course, to each his own right?
I've also noticed audio geeks often have poney tails or long hair.

    sound at shows

is typically sub-par because hotel rooms are not nearly ideal for the purpose AND setup time is usually too short. now and again, it turns out superlative.

the pony tails are leftover from the boomer generation's long hair and some of those guys are musicians who tend toward that look.

mostly the shows are for display of merchandise to tempt you to find the products to listen to AND for potential sales to the retailers. home audition is the best anyway.

    ooopsy

many times the 'music' is chosen for its impact or other demonstration characteristic. otoh, i have been turned on to some truly great music at shows.

the score to american beauty turns out to be not only good music but it has some scarysynthesizer transients and bela fleck and the flecktones-flight of the cosmic hippo reveals victor wooten's ample electric bass skills as well as being a great woofer demo and setup tool.

both of these i heard at shows.

Perhaps you've heard me yakin about Frugal horns, same deal here. They do have a real magic sound. The driver is important but it's actually the chamber of the horn that's doing the real work. I want to build some Metronomes, simple in design. Those in the video probably have a chamber similar to this...

Those Maxxhorns go for $28,500. With a sensitivity of 103dB the Feastrex drivers will rock with a couple of watts. From the front they look for the world like my Tang Bands.

    the chamber of the horn----

in the pic, that shows to be a trnsmission line. that brings the lows out nicely, that should be gratifying after the build is complete.
