Diffusors for front wall behind 3.6Rs?

I'm looking for some sort of material to put on the front wall just behind my 3.6Rs for diffusion purposes. I like this concept:

but it's pretty expensive.

Any ideas for something along those lines, but less expensive?

Or any other entirely different suggestions, for that matter?

well there are the sound proofing panels, they don't really have the texture that the one your looking at does, but in general they are a bunch cheaper. for example.. http://www.soundprooffoam.com/soft-s...er-panels.html

^^^ Those are for absorption; I'm really looking for diffusion, which is different.

A “skyline” diffuser, great idea all though they don’t come cheap!

I came up with an idea last year to make something along those lines with bolster wood its very light weight and doesn’t cost much and when cutting various pieces at different lengths and attaching them to a flat surface with liquid nails for strength you start to end up with a you’re very own customized skyline diffuser where you can than spray paint it to what ever colour you want.

So get the wife, starting on the cutting and you can do the planning.

When observed from above when the rain starts to fall the first place it lands is on the tallest building and then the shortest and so on.

i have heard wilson maxx2s in an overtreated room and they didnt gel. one place you may want to visit is the planar speaker asylum at:

I have 2" acoustic foam diffusion panels all along the wall of my 11' x 25' room. It's not eye appealing but I don't care it's my audio room. Perhaps I over did it but at the time I purchased them it was for my living room and I didn't know how much was needed.
I think they work well used this way as it still allows liviliness on the top half of my room.
My only complaint is the product I bought isn't fireproof..
Originally I had these panels covering almost the entire wall of my living room when I had my system up stairs. It made the room ultra quiet when there was no music being played.
When I moved my system to the basement I didn't use the panels for awhile. This was so I could tell whether or not they had an affect. After moving them into the room, again it made the room seem quieter. With music playing the sound was focused so that I could hear more detail. I would say the difference was only marginal, but you know every little tweak helps in acheiving high quality sound. And isn't that what we're after once you start investing in Hi Fidelity?

Are you handy with tools? Dont think money matter too much to you. How about some wood? No, I mean wood.

Dont think I've ever seen your system in PhotoG, so not sure if wood panels'll blend in your audio palace. But I've always loved the looks of Skyline panels. Good choice!!

Those wood ones look beautiful, and they'd probably fit in fine, but they're just too pricey.

Actually, i was visiting a new hifi shop in Ottawa today, and they seem to have a diffuser almost like the first one shown... Basically, its just a bunch of 4"-8" pieces of 2"x2" wood, but with 90degree angles on the ends arranged randomly into a big rectangular panel.

If you coat it or paint it, it looks pretty damn cool... AND you can brag that you made it yourself :lol:

Didn't Floyd Toole do some research along these lines and/or recommend absorption rather than diffusion?

In any case I think if Mike's 3.6's are 5 feet off the wall behind, reflections aren't a problem for sound smearing or harshness. The side walls might be the bigger problem on account of the 3.6's ribbons that have wider dispersion off-axis; (unlike the Maggie 1.6's that are much narrower on account of their quasi-ribbons).

I've got absorption on the side walls. I've tried putting absorption panels behind the speakers as well, but the room sounds too flat and dry then.

...worked for me.

How about getting about 6 tall artificial tree/plants behind your speakers?
