The best A/V receiver for around $1000
I want to buy a Home Theater system and I need your recommendation on a receiver. Also, what do you guys think of the B&W 601 S3's? Will that be a good match? Thanks.

Not enough information. What are your room dimensions? 5.1 or 7.1 preference? Warm, neutral, or sterile sound? Rugs or tiles? Let us know and we will try and help you out.

To answer the receiver question the following are generally good in that price range:

    Yamaha RX-V1400 or RX-V2400
    Denon AVR-3803
    Onkyo TX-NR900
    Marantz SR7400
    Pioneer Elite VSX-55TXi

Of course, if you have a five channel amp laying around you may consider going with the Outlaw 950.

I've tried all the brands listed and am a staunch Denon advocate. IMHO the Denon's are the "Mercedes" of receivers. Built solid and to last!

Since you're a newb I suggest that you consider...
Ease of set up as well. All the receivers mention are good, but the Yamaha with it's automatic calibration program is something you might want to consider. If you think you're good enough to calibrate your system yourself the Denon's and Onkyo's make the process pretty painless. I know, I've set up many a HT system in the last 4 years.
