ADVENT PRODIGY Speakers, Anyone ever heard?
Anyone know the history of this company? Speaker wise... Are they any good? If someone could give a brief description of this speaker company that would be great. I am thinking about buying some.
    Thank you,
    Steve

Hey Steve. The Advent company was founded in part by the famed Henry Kloss. He/Advent manufactured one of the industry's first true high fidelity speaker back in the early 70's - the Large Advent. It used a grundbreaking tweeter and a woofer that was mounted on a larger basket and had an inverted foam surround. It was a great sounding acoustic suspension type soeaker. Today, these Advent Large speakers can fetch a pretty penny if still original. I have a pair that I refinished and restored. They do sound very, very nice. Now back to your Prodigy question. I also have a set of Advent Prodigy's. Although Advent manufactured the Prodigy, it is not the same Advent company that we all know and love. Advent was sold to Jensen Inc in the 80's, and the Prodigy is really just a Jensen speaker The tweeter is a polydome/mylar type - known to sound harsh, and the woofer is....well...it's nothing special. I would'nt pay more than $20.00 for the Prodigy's - in any condition. They're not a bad speaker, they're just not a good one. You can visit my website and see the Advent Large and Prodigy speakers there - inside and out. I refoamed, refinished, and rebuilt these speakers and there are many. many pictures.
