Hey marlonrom, some of the vocalists you've listed are pretty good. Calling them diva's is stretching things a little. You should have mentioned earlier that they are all Jazz or Jazz oriented. As JiW said he's more a classic rock guy. Jazz is my primary music type.

Thanks Joe, I'm just starting to build a jazz collection. My new speakers do give me more of an apprecation of jazz. I was at my local HiFi shop on Friday for a couple of hours and I was really getting into some Stanley Clarke. Now I will check out your list marlonrom, now that I know it's jazz oriented.

Billie Holliday
Sarah Vaughan
Carmen McCrae
Nancy Wilson
Shirley Horn
Nina Simone

I would recommend the vocalists above before any of those marlonrom mentioned. This doesn't mean the ones he mentioned aren't any good. They are however, rather obscure.

Any of those I listed above are true diva's. This is not just my opinion.

I met Stanley years ago. He's from my general neighborhood. You might want to try some Return To Forever. I can especially recommend Light As A Feather.

Thanks Joe but of course your observation is right on the money. I admit I might have pushed the envelope a bit too far referring to the ladies as divas. Of course they are not (not yet anyway). It wasn't giving light to the real Divas the list of names you referred to because for all intents and purposes, they are the mother of all divas. I am sure and I know you will agree, these real divas didn't start being fabulously known from the very first moment they held the microphone. I mentioned these fast rising female singers because some of these - 50 years from now, will make it to the top I mean particularly Opie Bellas and Irene Altman. Cheers!
