Personally, I hated the acting, but loved the film. It IMO is a great disaster movie complete with all of the trimmings of Earthquake, The Poseidon Adventure, Deep Impact, and the Towering Inferno all packed into a nice big package. I thought it was much better than War of the Worlds with the crazy Cruise guy. The visuals and sound were top notch, and the storytelling wasn't all that bad. Your suspension of belief was severely tested, but not pulled apart like taffy. It is a great popcorn(bring your own though) and fizzy water flick.

I gave it a B+ for entertainment value.

Like a lot of movies now-a-days, it was as Joel Siegel might say, "a rollercoaster-ride of a movie". The acting at times seemed tongue-in-cheek, even though the subject is presented straight up. John Cusack was his usual affable, unassuming self (he is quite one-dimentional - this is the movie Nicholas Cage shoulda made). They did a good job summing up how something like this might "go down" from a social perspective, and the special effects were stunning. The scope of this disaster flick is tremendous...I doubt if any other movie on the subject will ever top this one from a visual perspective - it blows Knowing out of the water. The science wasn't too far flung, but as usual, liberties were taken. Has to be seen on a big screen. Don't know if it warrants multiple veiwings though.
