Cool Star Wars: No Blu-ray, HD DVD on the Horizon.

Responding to persistent rumors of a pending release of the 'Star Wars' films on high-def disc, Lucasfilm has issued a statement denying any such plans for the series in the foreseeable future.

Amazon had a "placeholder" pages for highly anticipated titles such a as Star Wars, enabling customers to sign up for an email alert when the item in question becomes available. Hoping to quell the web wildfire, the folks at PC World contacted Lucasfilm for comment early last week, and were told the following by company spokesperson John Singh:

""Lucasfilm Ltd. has no plans to release any of the Star Wars movies on Blu-ray or HD DVD. Listings on Amazon.com or any other Web site are purely speculative and erroneous."

It's worth noting that such a statement should not be much of a surprise. Lucas was one of the longest hold-outs on DVD despite that format's fast-growing mainstream acceptance, waiting over four years after launch before he allowed the first 'Star Wars' film to be released on disc.

Not surprised, Lucas needs time to re-write the original trilogy again...In Version 3, Greedo not only shoots first, but he's actually the guy who kidnaps R2D2 and sells him to the Jawa's....

I don’t know Kex, Lucas have always been tight with his star wars movies. Back in the early days of premium channels such as HBO, movies were usually shown one year after their theater release. But for Starwars, I remember it was like four or five years ('82 or '83)after its initial release before it was shown on premium channels.

May be he is waiting to see which HD format will win, so he will not loss any money LOL
