If your anything like me, you make a pit stop at the DVD section whenever you're at a local store. Here's a couple of DVD's I've picked up that have been on my wishlist for awhile.

Whereas music is a weekly thing, I tend to binge-shop for DVDs. As the following list reveals, I also am capable of making some pretty geeky purchases:
--Crash
--Pride and Prejudice
--Spenser:The Movie Collection
--Hostel
--Jarhead
--Spartan
--Deep Blue Sea

I'm a proud owner of Deep Blue Sea myself. I don't know why, but I like that movie.

How true. I was just in Sams club and Walmart Wednesday buying some DVDs.

I already had Pirates, Kingdom, Clash, Planet, Hamshank oops I mean Shawshank, and One Million years, So I will raise you Nanny McPhee, Red Eye, Big Momma II, Sound of Thunder and Dark Waters. Got more just cannot remember what they are, damn living in two places at different times, can't keep either straight!

None of these are actually reallly good movies, which is why places like Walmart dump them off cheap....the ones that are good are most likely the ones in desperate need of a new DVD transfer.

But really, your statement is not necessary true. It all depend on ones own interpretation of “good movies”.
To me, a movie that can stand repeated viewing is a good movie :)

I agree Smokey,movies are a very subjective thing.On e mans award winner is another mans coaster.
My recent purchases include Stargate sg1 seasons 1,2,3.

The Jerk - on sale at Best Buy 2 for $15 I couldn't resist. The other 7.50 purchase was...

Swingers - finally replaced the vhs copy
Attack of the Giant Leeches - again a vhs replacement. Yvette Vickers steals the show as a young wife of the town bar and general store owner. Unfortunately, she dies about a third of the way into it - killed by someone in a large rubber suit with suckers all over it.
White Zombie - always wanted this one. Bela Lugosi's dead, right?
I also put together a list of Japanese Samurai films to eventually aquire. In doing so, I ran across Onibaba - an interesting looking Japanese film from '64, I believe, that only tangentially involves samurai. A mother and daughter-in-law are left to fend for themselves during feudal wars in Japan. I haven't watched it yet but the insert from this Criterion Collection copy has intense imagery. Evidently it's filled with sexual symbolism as well. It's also supposed to be the precursor to the more recent popular Japanese horror films.

ONIBABA is a really great film...if you liked that I would also recommend KWAIDAN.

I'm looking forward to watching it. Originally, I was trying to find samurai films with sword action when I stumbled upon it. Thanks for the recommendation too.

Ever since it was announced and withdrawn and then reannounced after the series began airing on Sci-Fi Channel, I'd been planning to get the new Doctor Who: Series One DVD set and I bought it last week when it came out. At the same time, Fry's Electronics had Jackie Chan's New Police Story on special for $13 and Beavis and Butthead: The Mike Judge Collection Volume 2 for $20, so I picked those up as well.

Drumline is a great demo soundtrack. Lot of big bass drums and excellent surround mixing with the marching bands and drumlines. Your system will have a field day with this one!

I was looking at that BB twofer sale as well, but I made a couple of impulse buys the last couple of weeks, so I should probably get around to actually watching what I've already purchased before stocking up on more!

Yep, you're right about "good movie" being a subjective term. And nowadays, the timeline between when a DVD gets released and when the prices gets reduced to prop up flagging demand seems to be getting shorter and shorter. I mean, it wouldn't sound right for world famous bargain hunter Smokey to buy a DVD before it had gone through two or three rounds of price reductions! :D

While cruising thru the neighborhood saw some speakers that caught my eye. They
turned out to be some wasted old kenwoods, but did pick up these flicks for $2.50
each;
Bullitt...Still 2nd best car chase put on film
Love Story...A tear jerker if there ever was one(my wife made me sit though it)
Hunt For Red October
Blue Collar Comedy Tour..Jeff Foxworthy, Larry The Cable Guy and those other two
guys(Seen better stand-up, but not bad).
Check Your area for yardsales, you'd be surprised what people want to get rid of.
There's alot of cool gear out there, for cheap. There's alot of junk too, but once in awhile
there's a good score.

It wasn't that good so its going out in the next yard sale. I think Martin was better in Rebound which is another new purchase.

jackie's new police story is really good! i think jackie's gone through some strides in his acting and has been able to tap into his emotions, almost a little TOO much, as he has several emotional scenes where the tears flow, to the point where he's almost showing off that he can cry. the fight sequences and stunts are still at the high level that you can expect. i got this last year, the foreign double disc version with all the behind the scenes specials on the second disc, i'm not sure if the american release was a 1 or 2 disc set, but watching the behind the scenes on the "building dive" stunt gave me the willies just watching what they did! wow! those guys have some serious balls.
and its a really enjoyable story too, good entertaining movie!

I've rented it a couple of times but have not had the pleasure of hearing it on my Energy's. I'm quite sure it will be a completely different movie.

Believe it or not, I haven’t paid over $7.50 (most of them $5.50) for any of DVDs I own. The only DVDs paid $10 for were double discs Star Trek special edition movies...and that was kind of too much :D

HOFD is great. If you don't have Hero, you may want to pick that one up as well.
