A History of Violent Movies...

Anyone seen "A History of Violence" yet? I'm typically not phased by violence in movies but the graphic violence in this one even raised my eyebrow a couple times. I didn't walk out nor am I really complaining about it...I just thought it may have pushed the envelope of what I was expecting from an R rated movie. There were a couple sex scenes that bordered on near pornographic as well.

Did anyone else notice this or am I just becoming a fuddy-duddy as I approach 40 (next year).

BTW...I actually enjoyed the movie. Great performances...lots of action. A few dead spots in the middle and a ridiculously implausible plot...but I never let a little thing like plausibility get in the way of a good popcorn muncher. As always Ed Harris steals every scene he's in. Does anyone (without a nice rack) steal a scene as well as Harris these days? He's still the first guy I think of whenever I hear "A Beautiful Mind" discussed.

I really loved the movie. i thought it is one of the better movies out this year and everyone is terrific in it. ed harris and william hurt both give incredible performances. the two sex scenes i thought were appropriate in that the first one showed a level of intimacy you dont normally see, that level of intamacy (a 69 scene) i cant remember seeing in any hollywood movie, or at least not very common if it has been shown. this couple is incredibly intimate with each other, her calling tom the best man in the world, him saying he's the luckiest man in the world, and that contrasts well with the fact that even with this level of intimacy, she didnt know that tom was really joey. the second scene was appropriate given the rawness of it all, in that it was like she was "cheating" on tom with joey. the only thing i thought came out of nowhere was the full frontal by maria bellow. just my 2 cents.

Hey Kam - speaking of "naked", I saw Y Tu Mama Tambien last night on IFC. It's still on my mind this morning - good film.

i was happy to see alfonso cuaron take over the Life of Pi directing duties. i still hope M. knight can do it, but if he can't direct it, cuaron is a very interesting choice to pull it off. i thought his harry potter and the prisoner of azkaban had nice touches to it.

In YTMT, i read on imdb, in the 'pool scene' they used drops of shampoo as their 'liquid double' haha.

Kam - There's a post on the message board of the YTMT page at imdb saying that Cuaron has left the Life of Pi and has been replaced by a French dir.
