    The New Bullitt

I bet that title grabbed you. I wish. But if there is one in our future, who should play the man? My lady says Joaquin Phoenix. Pretty good, I'd say but I'm not totally convinced. I said Andre Baugher, that went over like the turd in the punchbowl. What do you say?

    There's several I could recommend.

    Interesting topic, here's my choices.

Don Cheadle - He'd be great, he can act and McQueen wasn't much taller.

Denzel - Maybe a bit too close to his "Man on Fire" role but he'd be good.

    Russel Crowe - Perfect match.

Bruce Willis - Normally I'd say no but his understated performance in "16 Blocks" convinced me that the man CAN act when he wants to.

Maybe one of the reasons the remaking of Bullitt might not be a consideration is that it's so perfect as it was. What else could you add? A better car chase? Steve McQueen owns the role. My lady says it was his charisma. You watched him even when he wasn't doing anything. The lack of excess gave him a perfect stage. Is Pierce Brosnan magnetic enough? Could Sean Penn lose his cockiness? The thing about all the actors mentioned so far is they're not transparent enough. We've seen them too much accept for Phoenix, maybe. My lady said what about David Caruso? I hear you passing out. Not the David Caruso of today but of NYPD Blue. He couldn't get any consideration, tho, because he is so steeped in shtick. Bad call.

Man. I wish somebody would light me up. This is interesting I think, but a difficult proposition.

Armand Assante (although maybe too old) probably would also be a good candidate for that role. Very under rated actor.

I like these dudes, the both of them, but, speaking for myself only, for one reason or another, I can't exactly see it. I've given thought to the crop of Brit and Irish actors that we're getting accustomed to seeing and would include Clive Owen but no bingos go off here. One will, I beleive, if the names keep coming.

Actually I wonder how Daniel Craig would be in that role. He does have a striking resemblance to some degree, as well as the physique.

Good one. No s***, but I bet he's gonna be tied up with Bond for quite awhile. I think I read that he will be in the next one. You know his agent is lookin long term. He's probably not a candidate for this reason and even tho this is a fantasy post, you know it is or has been kicked around. DC is better than I have been able to come up with (so far). I think my squeeze has done better than me. I can see it.

What???? Armand Assante? Come on Smokester....

No wait, how about Burgess Merideth (oh wait he's dead) or Drew Carey....maybe Justin Long, or Philip Baker Hall, or maybe there is a spin this time and it's a female lead character, but she's a minor...maybe Dakota Fanning.

May be we should be thinking outside the box. Worf already mentioned Denzel, but Will Smith might be better at that role. Or may be Jackie Chan

Bullitt has to have a partner, too, but they might consider expanding the guy's part if they want to nail down a quality actor. I suppose ideally this character would need be added after we decide on who's Bullitt, but whadda think of Benecio Del Toro as a candidate? Can I get an amen?

Yeah, I could see that happening and it would be cool to had Steven Soderbergh directing it.

A better second fiddle- Jake Guykenhall (spelling?). Younger, eager, yeah, that works better. Shouldn't require as much rewrite either. But, who da man?. You may have something there with Soderbergh.
