Chite, I'm hooked. Watching the whole first season on DVD. Great series but oh my god what could it have been on HBO instead of AMC. Amazing.

This is a series that I'm sorry to have not watched from the beginning. Like Worf, I'll probably eventually watch it from DVD. But so far, I've only seen little bits and pieces but liked what I've seen.

No!, no commercials :hand:

The third season wrapped a few weeks ago.
I was hooked from episode one, but if I remember correctly the intensity picks up in season 2. And, a couple episodes move from east coast to west coast and the authenticity of sets, scenery, etc. out west is just as convincing. I watched seasons 1 & 2on dvd before season 3 began. Although season 3 was great, I really enjoyed the lack of commercials and widescreen presentation on dvd. Unfortunately, I don't get AMC in HD. And, Mad Men is not the type of series I can dvr so I can skip through commercials. I have to watch it as it airs. It's been picked up for at least one more season. Worf, catch up on 1, 2 & 3 then let's start a thread when season 4 begins.

Have a date!!! I love to find Television or movies that make my heart pump and my mind think. It's so rare an occurance these days that when I do fall for a film or television series, I tend to go whole hog until it either ends or it jumps the shark. The last series I truly loved was HBO's "The Wire", never in my life had I witnessed such television. Mad Men isn't quite there in the Top Ten but, depending on what I see in seasons 2 and 3, it might be carving out a spot for itself.

That's the only real "downside" to HBO. They get me hooked on something, usually a period piece, then WHAM! They pull the rug out from under you after the second season. "Rome", "Deadwood" and "Carnivale" were geat series done in way too soon for my liking.

Yes "I" i heard that"....I so wanted to beat the crap out of who-me ever did put on end to "Carnivale"!! myself...... in the mean time I'll just treat "Deadwood" like nice tasting (Ham Bone).
Hey" my CD trader guy put a hold on those "Mad men" for me, I'll be picking them up this afternoon.
Page # 3.... has anyone seen "Steven Seagal" lately he's got this reality flick called (Law Man) in Jefferson parish, Louisiana, kinda sorta more like a spin on "COPS"!!?? and he is a (Real Cop) its an A&E effort are y'all  or :hand: ?

Mad Men Revisited??!!
HEY FANS" I'M wondering if anyone would give a heads on MAD MEN season three? I have bought season 1 & 2 after reading this thread!! and loving the two Disc's" with just one (caveat) towards the end of season' two..
the business trip to Los Angeles, I" was sort of looking in anticipation" towards the direction that Don' was taking (Sterling Cooper) but then Don" becomes acquainted with some new friends? and he" Don Draper" becomes complicated in a new way with the (secret identity thing!!)... Betty decided to cheat" on him" with a stranger in a Bar,then tell him to come back home??!! so that she could Bomb him the pregnancy!! :frown2:
to make a long story short, I love MAD MEN however the ending of season two" was not A Cliffhanger for me??!! so before I run out to get season three I'm asking" what are you guys opinion of season three? :wink5:
-
OH WELL" no reply!! is it something I said? well I don't have AMC that's why i wanted a heads up on season three, :smile5: anyways I bought it from Target for $17.99 on Thursday (so far so good) its looking  plus the special Features "UH-HUM"

Season three....
I just finished Season Three on Blue Ray via NetFlix. Trust me. TRUST ME!!!! All sorts of ground work laid in seasons one and two come to full fruition in Season 3. Strange occurences, freak accidents, spousal snooping and betrayals all lend a hand to make the season crazy memorable. You WILL NOT be disappointed. Its a wild ride that gets even wilder. Add to that the backdrop of the Kennedy Assisination et. al and you've one helluva season.

There will be a season four but in that AMC is cheap and stank, I'm not sure when. You'll just have to wait it out like the rest of us. :17:

So Mad Men is back and I get the feeling the early episodes for this season are wandering aimlessly. I get it to a certain extent because it feels like Don is wandering aimlessly without Betts and the kids. But, at some point they're going to have to do something to pick things up. The preview for the next episode showed some tension. I needs me some tension.
Ok, so it was risky to air a Christmas episode in the middle of Summer, but what about the characters? Where's the risk-taking, the delicate deal that could fall apart at any moment, the climb to the top without regard for anyone else, the self-destructive selfishness with REAL consequences? (Don slept with his secretary and now she's gone. Big deal.) Give me the tension!
With all the blood, sex and smart-assed antics going on over on HBO at the same time (True Blood, Entourage), Mad Men better crank it up. (Oh, and don't get me started on Entourage. Anal sex, Brazilian waxes, and porn-star girlfriends? Who's writing that high school gym class stuff?)

Thank you for confirming my suspicions.......
My wife and I just started watching this series to find our what all the hype was about. So far we have found it boring and predictable. My sister-in-law who is a big fan was visiting and kept saying we needed to see the first couple of seasons to appreciate it. My response was that it is not that I don't get the story line which may have nuances referring to earlier seasons but that the dialogue was stilted and clearly designed to draw out scenes that lacked plot. I also suspect they are going to go down a counter culture vs business suits storyline but who knows. I think we will try and rent the first two seasons and watch a few more episodes before deciding whether we hang in there with it.

IMO, the first three seasons are what good tv should be. Maybe the writers are slacking off and riding their earlier praise or perhaps they're building to something. The earlier seasons had lulls but never more than one episode at a time.
But yeah, to get the real feel of the series you've got to follow Don Draper with his family before the split and become aquainted with the dynamics at the old agency. The old agency broke up at the end of last season and what we're seeing now is the beginning of the new agency with only one major client (Lucky Strike) that they were able to bring with them. Even if season 4 ultimately blows (it's too early to call), the first 3 seasons are worth the time and effort - especially on dvd without commercials.
BTW, the first season had a counter culture (beatniks) vs. suits storyline but it didn't last long. Those bohemians didn't stand a chance against Don.

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Alert! How about some warning before you start giving away major details. I just finished disc 2 of season 2. I love the sixties feel, the decor, fashions, attitudes. Takes me back to what seemed like simpler times.

How about not clicking on a Mad Men thread until you catch up. C'mon dude. I would've liked to see you try that in the Lost thread. I didn't really give anything away in my first post on the new season (3 episodes in, no less) other than Don wandering aimlessly without Betts and the kids but that's pretty vague. My second post gave away more but it was in direct response to thekid who jumped in with season 4 and was considering renting the earlier seasons. Please don't read that one.
Mad Men marathon at bfalls house this weekend, everybody! I'm bringing the whiskey. (We're stayin' 'til Sunday's new episode so pack a lunch. Bfalls, I'm bringin' da Worfster who allows only a limited number of bathroom breaks.)

Sorry I'm late...
I had work to do in the field (heaven forfend) I know, I know, I shouldn't have allowed my work to interfere with my passion BUT, gotsta buy dem groceries ya know...
This Season:
Has quite simply been pretty boring. Not alot going on, just plenty of sighing and hangovers, mumbling and stumbling. I too hope this is going somewhere. Having lived through this era I mean Civil Rights, Viet Nam War, Counter Culture all that's going on outside the walls and Don's still slurping his Scotch Rocks and wearing that Fedora? Hmmm I predict he'll wind up with the kids. Betts is a trainwreck, the best thing all season was when her new Mom in law summed her up in two sentences. Other than that.... ho friggin hum.

Sounds like a good time, but I'd be caught up by the time you arrived. I have speakers in one bathroom, so no need to pause the episode. I'm in the middle of season three and have episodes from season 4 on DVR. I'd much rather watch several at a time instead of one a week.
I'm really enjoying the 60's references. Especially where Bett didn't want a pill because she's pregnant, but smoking, drinking and horseback-riding are all OK. Signs of the times.
