    True Blood's back, y'all.

Season 3 started last night. More weird goings on in Bon Temps and beyond. Werewolves in Mississippi, a dope peddlin' queen (two, actually) and much more. How 'bout that near/almost shower scene that turned out to be a dream?

    Whattup deano...

I am not familiar with this series though I have been intrigued by some of the commercials for the new season and the disc sets of previous years. Talk at me about the background of this program, eh...more vampire angst for the Twighlight fans or a new thought all together...?

    Whattup, 'sticks

No way, man. True Blood ain't no brooding whiny teenage angst nobody-understands-me vampire doodoo. (Haven't seen Twilight but I know the type.) True Blood is decadent for decadence sake. It's based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris who created a fictional town in Louisiana named Bon Temps (pronounced Bon Tom) with a main character named Sookie Stackhouse who falls for a southern gentleman type vampire named Bill Compton. But Bill's not the only vampire around. A Japanese drug company invents a synthetic blood drink (TruBlood) that allows vampires to stop preying on humans and come out of hiding. Some vamps prefer the old ways.

The books are filled with many unhuman characters like werewolves, shapeshifters and a maenad (from Greek Mythology). The storylines include comical redneck antics, vamps vs. vamps, vamps vs. humans, vamps and humans vs. other "un-natural" beings and so on. Season 3 opened with the introduction to the werewolves which were only hinted at in Season 2. Although there is a core set of characters (most of whom are at least funny if not interesting), new ones are being introduced on a regular basis. It's fun stuff. Think vampires on Erskine Caldwell's Tobacco Road. Even those who have an ounce of dignity must sacrifice it at some point.

    Lotsa fun.

It's definitely a guilty pleasure. Don't think too hard or try to analyze it too deeply.

Once you get the characters straight, it all falls into place. ...and then they shake it up.

They loosely follow the books but not too closely.

If you're new to this, you might want to get hold of the firs ttwo seasons on DVD just to get caught up. Plus, it's entertaining as hell.

But I still don't know what to make of that dream...

    I like the series...

I personally was pretty disappointed with last season but this one seems to have righted the ship at least thus far. Deano's wrong bout only a couple of things. There was a "whiney oh woe is me" vampire in Season 2 named Godrick. Pheh, that story line I could'a lived without. But all in all TB is good if not great television. Sleazy, smarmy, sexy and surprising. You could do a lot worse.

Remember he drank Bill's blood (a LOT of it too) so he could kill shakey lady. As a result, much like Sookie and Eric, he's now bound to Bill in a psycho-sexual way. You suck blood you see that vamp in your dreams.

I think my FiOS service is offering 3 free months of HBO/Cinemax. I did like that show; stayed with it for the time I was getting HBO previously, and since Network TV programming SUCKS, maybe I'll signup again.

    Hi sticky bobby!

So, what did you think of that last episode?

There's a lot being thrown at us this season.

    That Lorena's quite a head-turner, wouldn't you say?

I'd say Sam was better off not knowing his birth parents.

werewolves and shifters and bloodsuckers, oh my...

I was able to watch two episodes last night as I was receiving HBO/Cinemax free for the weekend. One episode was an old one (although I'd not seen it before) and the new for this season episode. I've missed a lot but some of it made sense to me. So Bill Compton got himself into a situation where he had to claim loyalty to a rogue pack of werewolfs eh?

Yes, Lorena did get all twisted up while having sex with Bill.

    Sam's parents are La-ooooooooosers!!!

    Well....

Lot's to digest in last night's episode that's fer sure....

    1. Sam's made the biggest mistake of his life lookin' up that low rent family of his...

    2. Bro Stackhouse has to come clean about the shooting... period.

    3. Are Werewolves immortal as well? I don't think they are.

    4. Vamps have non-biting sex. When male vamps errrr "reach the mountain top" do they errrr "edraculate" semen? Blood? Dust? Hell they are dead remember?

What a nasty, NASTY show last night... I'm lovin' it.

Oh and, when you said "non-biting sex", did you actually mean non-binding sex?

What's got Bill so riled? Did Lorena survive the head-spinning sex?

Who's that vamp sniffin' round Tara?

When was Bill ever "loyal" to the Queen of LA such that he'd have to switch allegiances? I think there were some clues in those papers discovered last week. (I heard from someone who has read the books that those papers will lead us to what Bill has really been up to in his recent past.)

Is Eric setting up Lafayette to take the fall for pushin' V?

I once had a girlfriend that had a non-binding resolution to eschew non-biting sex. She doesn't come around anymore...
