    Favorite Jack Nicholson Film

Certainly one of my favorite actors of all time....what's your favorite???

My favorite movie up here is ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST followed by THE SHINING and it would be nearly impossibly to think of these films without Jack in them!!! They are classics in their own right. The other films are good too, his acting has made alot of so-so films like A FEW GOOD MEN become legendary for just that one scene! Heath Ledger will be pressed to compete with his portrayal as The Joker and CHINATOWN is also a masterpiece film. EASY RIDER is an essential piece of filmmaking and represents an era in American's past, which has yet to be equalled. Let's face it when you think of a biker movie...EASY RIDER takes the cake!

Not an easy choice, but my vote would have to go to ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST.

It's funny -- two of my favourite roles he's ever played are in two movies that are widely considered to be terrible -- Mars Attacks! and The Witches of Eastwick.

I know poll only allow 10 choices, but where is About Schmit?

Hoffa is one of my favorite movie. He and Danny Devito are terrific together.

Mars Attacks is Great!!! Who says it's terrible? That movie is just plain hilarious.

This is too hard a poll for me, also i haven't seen some of those flicks. He's just done so many great movies.

I believe the numbers says it's terrible, as in, it didn't do well in the theaters, nor in DVD sales. But yeah, I enjoyed it. You might also like Evolution (David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, et al).

    Oh, and: The Shining. Easily.

I am a huge fan of ABOUT SCHMIDT and I think that Jack makes that movie perfect, however, I had to choose some of his more classic roles since the poll only allowed for 10. I think if I would have left out the others and inserted ABOUT SCHMIDT I would have been chastised.

Mars Attacks was a lot of fun. I think a lot of reviewers took it seriously. See also "Robocop" and "Starship Troopers." However I don't think it's his best work.

Loved "Witches of Eastwyk" and think THAT was one of his best performances too. It was a total poke at the whole "Jack Nicholson" schtick. So over the top and funny.

Also worth inclusion in the top 10 (and top 2 or 3 for me) was "The Last Detail" where he plays a career low ranking Navy Shore Patrol officer escorting innocent Randy Quaid to years of prison for a petty crime (against an Admiral) who takes the kid for a weekend of partying before he's dropped off. Early 70s, roughly made film oozing with period detail and flavor. You will understand the origins of the expression "he cursed like a sailor" when you watch this movie. Nicholson is like a mad dog in this, but his compassion for the Quaid character feels real. Move it to the top of your queue.

The worst is "The Passenger." Recently surfaced on DVD and WOW, it is shockingly cheesy, slow and pointless.

THE PASSENGER is just a film that only a few can understand and/or enjoy, that's what you get when you see a film by Michaelangelo Antonioni, who also directed another film that goes over heads of most...L'AVVENTURA. Both are slow-moving and differently paced than most people care for, or have the patience to enjoy. Fans of Nicolas Roeg's THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH are more likely to enjoy films of this nature. THE LAST DETAIL is indeed a good film, but since the poll only holds 10 I was unable to get all of Jack's roles, so I opted for the more popular and perhaps what I felt were his better roles.

although I haven't seen all of those movies, my vote goes to the shining,

the look on his face when he's sitting there dead (at the labyrinth) alone makes the movie worth watching...

The companion to Last Detail......Cinderella Liberty?

He always has the potential and ability to save almost any film in which he appears. Even if I don't know much about a movie or it has bad reviews, I'll see it because he is in it.
