I'm really looking forward to War Horse. We're seeing the stage play in 2012. I watch a trailer for the movie on YouTube and it just looks like it's filmed beautifully. I'll be taking plenty of Kleenex to the theatre with me. I think this one is going to be a real tear jerker for an animal lover like me.

    Thanks for the heads-up, Smokey.

I'll be ckecking out Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy for sure. The the TV miniseries of the same name, directed by John Irvin and staring Alec Guiness, was my favorite series of all time. If the current offering comes even remotely close, it will be great.

I'll looking forward to The Iron Lady too; I'm a big fan of historical-political biographies.

I hate to be in the audience when all tear jerker start

We have not seen a really good movie from Spielberg in a long long time. Let see if either War Horse or Tintin movie is going to change that.

That poster is kind of racey. If Daniel Graig was not standing behind her and there was more light, that poster would have been X rated.

Alec Guiness is also one of my favorite actor and did not know about that TV series. Now have to see if I can get hold of that series. Thanks for the tip.

I am interested in Coriolanus. So far it has a 93% rating on rotten tomatoes and this is Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut - nice first effort judging by the critics. This is one of the lesser known lesser read Shakespeare plays so it's nice that an actor's love for acting is putting it on the line to get it made - which probably explains all the hopeless movies he did to make the money to help finance it. Ahem "Clash of the Titans, Maid in Manhatten,"

The Guiness version of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy is an unequivocal "must see". Based on numerous reviews it gets 5 stars on Amazon, (where it's available on DVD, here), and 8.8 at IMDB, (here).

It's difficult to understand why anybody would give it less that a '9'. Too sophisticated? Too much attention required to follow the Le Carré plot? Who knows: I and lots of others gave it a '10' there, i.e. it's impossible to imagine how it could have been any better than it was.

I have said for awhile that films don't usually compete with TV series or for that matter excellent mini-series. You have complete trash like Gladiator winning awards while I am thinking I Claudius and rolling my eyes. Everything from writing to acting.

TV used to be 25 minute sitcoms of one liners but good TV like a Dexter really is leagues better than a Silence of the Lambs.

Don't get me wrong I like movies and it is commendable that in 90 to 140 minutes they are able to tell a story, and often make it a riveting experience but they're so few and far between. Looking at the list of 100 top movies in the other thread and most of the ones I saw on that list at best were mediocre and many bored me to tears.

And with the "one eye on the iPhone" crowd they are dumbing down the story lines due to the expectation that the viewers are not paying full attention to the movie but doing 1-3 other things while watching - and that mindset certainly isn't going to be able to follow Le Carré based films. This is a generation that grew up on Barney and the Power Rangers. I grew up on Doctor Who. Slight difference in vocabulary and story lines (like um they have some).

I saw a one woman play in British Columbia that is arguably better than at least 80 of my top 100 films of all time. The plays the thing and seeing good ones to me is far better than watching some goofball Blue cartoon mixed with drivel dimbulb Cameron plot devices. He's way better with Aliens eating people and futuristic robots than anything that requires any depth.

War House and Sherlock Holmes are best movies among all these. I had a great time while watching these. I am a great fan of Robert and Emily Watson.
