    "Road" movies: Top five.
    Too many to choose from this category, but AR only allow 5 or 6 pictures per thread. May be you all could fill in the rest :)

    Not in any particular order.......

    Convoy (1978): CB radio show on the road with Rubber Duck (Kris Kristofferson) and Pigpen (Burt Young).
    <img src="http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B000056QAK.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg">

    Duel (1971): A cult TV movie with directorial debut by Steven Spielberg.
    <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000063UR5.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg">

    Cannonball (1976): Down-and-dirty adventure about an illegal transcontinental car race.
    <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0002VEU8U.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg">

    Smokey and the Bandit (1977): Redneck heaven with memorable performance by Jackie Gleason.
    <img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/6300182185.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg">

    Easy Rider (1969): Search for America on motorcycle.

    Cool thread. I wanna think about this some more, but off the top of my head, I'd say I like Kalifornia, Cannonball Run, Smokey and the Bandit, The Hitcher. I guess Silver Streak wouldn't be a "road movie" huh? I may think of some more later, of course.

    Does "Road Trip" count?

    Smoke, you're one oddball guy....
    My fave road movies:

    1. "Gumball Rally" - The frist and best of the cross-country road race movies if you ask me. I remember seeing this movie at Fr. Leonard Wood Missourii and loved it.

    2. "Thelma and Louise" - Different twist on the road flick. More adult themes better acting. I loved it despite the controversy.

    3. "The Last Detail" - My introduction to "Mad Jack". I loved this flick and as an ex-serviceman saw much of myself and others in it.

    4. "Vanishing Point" - Didn't make a lot of sense to me at the time but in a 70's sorta way if grooved me.

    5. "The Great Race" - Jack Lemon in one of my Fave Films. Hilarious, everything "Around the World in 80 Days" should've been and wasn't if you ask me.

    Thanks guys for great movie suggestions. AS it is evident, some of movies paul_pci and 20to20K mentioned are hard to categorize under one heading. Movies such as Silver Streak and Midnight Run are road/train movies, with a bit of airplane thrown in :D

    Haven't seen Road Trip, so can't comment on that (not a big fan of Tom Green). But is it good enough to compete with best of them?

    Why you say that Worf. Is it because I'm stuck in the 70s&80s? :D

    Excellent suggestion on "Great Race". Jack Lemon and Peter Faulk made a great odd couple.

    And here is the one that got away: National Lampoon's Vacation with Chevy Chase.

    They used Tom Green to advertise "Road Trip", but he really wasn't in it very much. I liked it better than "National Lampoons Vacation", but I suppose those two would be closely related.

    Many excellent "road movies" have been named. Here are 5 - at least 3 of them are in my top 5 along with others already mentioned:

    1. Death Race 2000
    2. Wild at Heart
    3. Fandango
    4. Wizard of Oz - don't tell me this is not a "road" movie!
    5. Rat Race - thrown in for its laughs. It's late. If I come up with another one. I might replace this one.

    Man, how could have I forgotten about Midnight Run or Vacation: two of my all time favorites. Midnight Run has definitely got to qualify, as I think a core feature of the road movie is the chemistry between the characters and the conflicts that arise from an otherwise theoretically boring premise: traveling.

    Gumball Rally: I agree with Worf, it's the best of the x-country race and most closely follows Brock Yates' actual Cannonball Baker race, right down to the Ferrari Daytona (just without Dan Gurney).

    Fandango: A great movie with an even better soundtrack...if they would have made the damn thing :mad:!

    Dutch: One of my favorite movies during the holidays.

    Great Race: Classic

    Planes, Trains, and Automobiles: Don't know if this counts, but it certainly is a traveling movie

    some stretches, and not so far stretches....
    but all the good ones are taken!

    does Road to Perdition count? they kinda went on a road trip.

    how about Rain Man? they kinda went on a road trip too.

    Kingpin? they kinda went on a road trip as well.

    Tommy Boy? another good one with some driving.

    Wild at Heart/Blue Velvet? gotta mention a david lynch movie and nicely tie in another thread's discussion. :)

    Thanks guys for great suggestions. Some of movies I have seen and worth seeing again, and some I haven't (Gumball Rally, Fandango, Death Race 2000, etc..). But definitely seen Tommy Boy and loved it :)
