Upgrading my setup.
I've just changed over to an Arcam Alpha 9 CD player in my audio rig. It uses the revolutionary dCS Ring DAC. A clear step up in performance from what I was using.

I have heard a lot of the 24 bit dCS Ring DAC, what were you using before and how does it improve on it's performance.
Thanks in advance.

The effect seems to be that a lot of CD's that I've given up hope for sound significantly better. Less harsh, more listenable. Great recordings still sound great, although there's an added warmth to the midrange, and debth the the bass.
Smooth & grain free is the name of game for this player.

I had an Alpha 9 for awhile, it's an excellent player and if memory serves me it decodes HDCD.

That's correct

And I have a few CD's that are HDCD, so that was a real added bonus.
