    tech question? rca vs. coaxial

I am wondering if I can have my cd player connected to the analog dvd/ld on my reciever and my dvd player connected to the coaxial dvd/ld as long as I don't run them at the same time. For some reason when I connect the cd player to the cd output on the reciever I get a really faint signal and I know it isn't the cd player because my old cd player did the same thing. Does anyone know if this is ok?

    My head hurts reading this.

Okay, first off...what is dvd/ld? What does /ld mean?

But if you're asking if you can have two different components connected to the same input..one on analog and one on digital the answer is...it depends. I can do it on my Outlaw preamp because all the seperate inputs (both analg and digital) are fully mappable and customizeable. It may be different on yours though.

    LD means LaserDisc.

Oh I see! Must be an old unit

Are your inputs mappable? Can you assign the dvd analog to say cd or aux input?

Actually MOST receivers still use the DVD/LD as a way of labelling the input....since LaserDiscs took advantage of the optical out.

yes, you can connect the cdp to the analog in of your rxvr while your dvdp to the digital in of your rxvr. the reason why you are hearing a faint signal is because you should make use of the input portion of your rxvr, not the output. use the output of your cdp connected to the input of your rxvr.

I am just trying to not have to switch out the dvd player and cd player from the reciever as the cd input on the receiver doesn't work (levels are very faint for some reason). I am using the analog connectors for the cd player and coaxial for the dvd, just wanted to be sure it was ok to connect both to the receiver at one time as long as they weren't used simultaneously.

Does your receiver have an optical input as well?
