    It's here!

yes, after nine weeks of waiting, it finally arrived

my Marantz CD5001 OSE is here

    yes, those are qed cables
I also bought the qed qunex 3, the kimber is used with the marantz, the qed with the project phonobox.

I'm not going to review it now, it has to burn it a little, and I've only spun a couple of discs...

there are a few things that I can already say though
It gives bass... lots of it
not only is there more bass, it's also more defined, with a bigger resolution.
It has a bigger soundstage too, with lots of detail at all frequencies. It also plays much softer than my pc...

    more updates following later,
    & Keep them spinning guys
    Bert.

    Bert,

That looks Sweeeeeeet!! I wasnt quite sure what model it is. 1/4" headphone jack is also a nice departure from PC playback. You are no ordinary teenager..I say this cuz you room looks very crisp. Great looking stuff overall. Thanx for your pics.

I certainly find the Marantz models very handsome to look at, and they have a good reputation for sound too. BTW, I was wondering what the "OSE" naming implies? Is this an enhanced model?

I must say that I'm getting restless about the DAC I'm presently using and reading about CDPs or DACs makes me want to move on. I'm using an Assemblage DAC 1.5 modified with higher grade op amps; it very transparent and grain free, but still rather bright despite the op amp mod.

A DAC makes more sense for me than a relatively expensive CDP since I listen to a lot of music from my computer which is zipped to lossless format.

    thanks
OSE stands for original special edition, it's kinda an enhanced model, they upgraded the internal wiring, better power supply, maybe a slightly better laser & mechanism... all little things help...

the speakers, the new surrounds still haven't arrived, but I can wait
I'll go for new varnish tomorrow, if it doesn't exist (the colour that I want) I might just remove the current veneer and completely reveneer them...

I still haven't found out what's wrong on the crossover, we'll desolder it completely, check all the parts seperately and then rebuild it completely, maybe that will give me a clue

    I'll keep you guys updated

    Keep them spinning,
    Bert.

Congratulations on the new cd player. I am still enjoying my CD5001 and find it an amazing deck for the price. The OSE is not available in the US as far as I know but the OSE's have always received very good reviews. It would be fun to compare the two models. Enjoy!

A friend recently gave me an SID damping disc to place over the cd's. I have noticed a further improvement in sound quality. When I have a day off and can listen to more cd's I will write more about it. I can say that it opens the soundstage and the individual instruments are better focused and defined.

One thing I noticed about SID is that CDP seems to play slightly better with scratched CDs(from early 90s when I was a CD Scratching Rebel).

For that, I believe it sounds better. Some damaged section seem to play with less stress and confusion by the lens. Pretty cool. But I must admit, I had a slight panic when I first opened it up cuz I dropped it on the floor. I could tell which side was supposed to be up.... It's green on both sides so no worries. Hey JM, if you can hear the difference between both sides, I will buy you are Prius and take you out for a nice dinner. LOL

    Outstanding

Nice work, young man. I continue to be impressed with way you systematically and sensibly upgrade your rig. I'm betting that you're listening to some great sounding tunes right about now. Rawk on.

    Cheers
