Question DVD Player, How Much Better?

I have a Technics CD player from 1986, I just bought a JVC DVD player and a man in
the local Stereo Store said if I play my CD's in the DVD player it will sound much
better. My speakers are in the shop so I can't check the DVD player's performance,
what can I expect? Thank you!

Well it definitely won't be any worse. How much better depends on your equipment and your room acoustics.

DACs have come a long way in twenty years. I have a $69 Toshiba player that is darn good playing CDs. Try it out when your speakers are back.

    My educated guess is yes.

Cleaning out some retired equipment I decided to hook up my old circa 1985 NEC CD player. The sound was not awful (not really good either). I'm sure even a $69 DVD player will best it no problem. My $400 DVD player simply runs rings around it, with cleaner more dynamic sound, and real lifelike presence; as opposed to a flat UN-lifelike sound from the old CD player. Technology has come a long way. My DVD player even gives my dedicated CD player a run for it's money on most CD's.
