    ipod flac lossless question...
I have a question for my RR tech experts:

Can I download a FLAC file and use my iPod's lossless option to import & play it on my iPod??

    Thanks-in-advance,

    Bill

The iPod doesn't support FLAC. You would need to convert the file to another format with another application.

Most iPods support AAC (16 to 320 Kbps), Protected AAC (from iTunes Music Store), MP3 (16 to 320 Kbps), MP3 VBR, Audible (formats 2, 3 and 4), Apple Lossless, WAV, and AIFF.

Apple Lossless is the only compressed, lossless format supported. WAV and AIFF are the non-compressed lossless options.

If you are running a Mac with OS X 10.4 there's a new converter out there that will convert to just about anything, Flac to Apple lossless included.

    Thanks-a-ton, noddinOff.

Unfortunately, I'm not running a Mac; I'm running a PC.
I just thought it would be cool to somehow get the FLAC on the iTunes.

    Cheers,

Happy to help! If you're bold, there is a hack for the iPod that will replace the iPods firmware. It will then allow you to play flac and other non-supported formats on the iPod. It also adds several features. It will, obviously, void the warranty. I've read good things about it but have no first hand experience.

It's worth noting that rockbox doesn't replace the ipod firmware, you can switch between the two once rockbox is installed

    Thanks! I didn't know that!
