I need a new dvd player, help!

Mine just broke. I want the best bang for my buck, and my price limit is $350. Let the recommendations begin. :)

If it's just for basic movie playback go out and buy a $100, give or take, Toshiba, LG, Panasonic, or JVC. No biggie. If you need DVD-A and/or SACD playback, consider the Yamaha or Denon models that fit your budget. Also, Cambrige Audio might fit your budget. Check out www.audioadvisor.com.

Denon DVD-1920 is available for $300. Offers HDMI Upconversion, DCDi by Faroudja, DVD-Audio, SACD, MP3, DivX, plus its an excellent CD player.

Or if you wait until August/September, the Denon DVD-1930 will be coming out, which is expected to offer 1080p Upconversion, and should be available under $350.

I had my eye on the 1920, just wasn't sure if it was any good. :)

Another contender is the Harman Kardon DVD-47. It's a new model that supports both DVD-A and SACD and has a very sleek look.

Which is better, the Denon 1920, or the Harman Kardon ?

I would highly recommend that Denon 1920 or something similar by Marantz.

if its dvd player you really want to be used exclusively for watching movies, you can actually have lesser budget. choose among pioneer, panasonic, denon.

the pioneer universal player is one good option here.

The Denon DVD-1930CI was anounced last week, and will feature 1080p upconversion. MSRP is $369, so you should be able to find for around $300-$350 in the next few weeks.

It also has upconversion to 1080i through its HDMI port, by the way. If you don't need sacd, dvd-a playback, or upconversion, then the DVD-27 can be had for $100 less.

While older HK players have had their share of problems, the newer ones have been more reliable. The video processing inside the DVD-47 is supposed to be very good.
