    DTS wont work?! Help!!!

    I have a Denon 2805 and a Mitusbishi DD-6040 DVD player

when I select Dolby Digital in the movie's setup, the Denon displays:
    auto, dig, Dolby Digital
when I select DTS in the movie's setup, the Denon displays:
    auto, analog
and I get no sound what so ever, yet the vid still plays.

I have the denon and mitusbishi connected with a monster optical cable...

I have had this dvd player for some time, but just recently upgraded to the denon, my old receiver was only prologic so this is the first time I am attempting to use DTS....

    thanks for any help
    Mike

Check the setup menu on the Mitsubishi. I'm betting that you've got DTS signals on the wrong output setting. If true, nothing's being output on your digital connection, but there's probably downmixed audio on the analog outputs.

I had the problem of the dvd optical not working on my receiver. So I used one of other optical ins and re-assigned it to dvd. You might have this option on your Denon where you can assign ports to different sources. Check your manual and see if you have this feature and if so try another optical in.

jeskibuff, Thanks, I will see if I can do this... (I have never been into a menu for the dvd player itself...)

Wireworm5, I am able to assign the 5 optical in's (I did assign one to dvd, and one to cd)...
but it works fine for dolby digital, just not dts...

I'll post back to see about the menu setup for the dvd player...

    thanks,
    Mike

You're quite welcome. I'm glad it was an easy fix for you. Welcome to the world of discrete 5.1 audio. It should be a noticeable difference, especially coming from Prologic. DTS even gives you a notch above DD as I'm sure you'll discover.

But there's always bad news with the good. Now that you see what you've been missing, you'll probably yearn to upgrade the rest of your equipment to get even more out of it!

    Indeed
I have my new speakers on order (the shop didn't carry cherry in stock)
Focal JMlab Chorus 716 S --fronts and rears
Focal JMlab Chorus CC 700 S --center

I am hoping they will be in by the end of this week, but I may have to wait till next week to pick them up due to work...

I watched U-571 in DTS today and it was very impressive!
I'll have to watch it again when my jmlab's are in ;o)

I am starting to look at SACD/DVD-A,
do you have any suggestions on that?

    Happy Easter,
    Mike
