    CD player suggestions

    Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Rotel 1057 receiver and a pair of B&W DM 604 S3 as the first step to build up my home theater system. I currently listen to my music with a SONY DVD player which I am not quite happy with. I am thinking of buying a CD player <$1000. I am thinking of Arcam CD73 or Rotel RCD-1072.

Have anyone done a A/B comparison between these two CDP ? Any suggestion on which CDP would a better fit in my system ? I appreciate for any comments

Rotel should have nice DAC. Are you using your sony as a transport, or using its RCA connection? I used to own RSX-972 and thought it's DAC was excellent, and I imaging it's better than your Sony. If you have been using digital connection, then you may not be happy with Rotel sound. With that said, 1072 might not be for you. Of course different transport and its internal layuout will produce different sound. Well? How do you have everything hooked up? Also, how recent did you acquire BW and Rotel AVR? If it's less than 100 hours, you may want to wait a while and see if your system will settle in.

Personally I have only used the Rotel, and i love it. I have heard some pretty good things about Arcam but I have had no experience with them
that makes as much sense as a drunken mongoose playing the piano

I tried both optical digital output and RCA output from the SONY DVD player to the Rotel, I prefer the RCA output. The bass was too strong when the Rotel DAC was used although it was great when I watched movies.

I used to have a Arcam Alaph 7 CDP and A65 integrated amplifier a few years ago. The same music seems to sound better with that system.

By the way, I only had this system around Christmas time and listen to them for less than 100hrs. As you suggested, i may need to give them some time to settle.

I agree. I have not heard a better CDP below 1K.
The Rotel should have no problems slotting into your rig. To me the Arcam sounds a little too safe. But it might just be right for you.
The Rega is a fantastic musical player and you would have to spent a fair amount to better it.

I just purchased the Arcam 73T after looking at the Rotel RCD1072 and NAD C542. I hear great things about the Rega Apollo, but did not get a chance to hear it. I think the
Arcam was the best in the $500-600 price range. I have the same speakers as you and very happy with the CD player purchase. also I noticed the Apollo and Arcam use similar
    wolfson WM8740 DAC.

Of what I've heard, I like the NAD C542 (in the up to $600 or $700 range) and then stepping up I'd be really interested in the Rega Apollo.

I just purchased th Music Hall 25.2 and love it. Music more detailed over the NAD 542. Also build quality is tops. Paid $550 for it. It can be modded easily for another $300.

The Azure 640c V2 uses 2 of them, one for each channel.
