Monster M1000 were the first "expensive" cables I owned. I found later that they muddled my midrange compared to Wire World, Homegrown Audio and Cardas.
I was driving them with a vacuum tube pre-amp with an output impedance of 100-200 Ohms, if memory serves, M1000's are fairly high capacitance cable so with solid state equipment they could easily sound quite different.
