16ga for short runs are fine. Long runs you should use 14ga or even 12 ga. Home Depot has them. You can even use what they call 'low voltage' landscape wire, inexpensive.

If you really want in-expensive yet very good sounding speaker cables find a Jamo shop and buy the JAMO OFC speaker cable, 12 ga, 14 ga, 16 ga. I've found it to be really good value for money. I use them with the transparent audio interconnect and my system sings.

Its a great find for me.

I like Nordost, as well as Kimber Kable.

Give them both a try. I recommend the Nordost Solar Wind and Blue Heaven interconnects. The Super Flatline and Solar Wind speaker cables are very nice. I like the Kimber Hero interconnect, as well a the 8TC speaker cable.

What's your budget? A popular entry level cable brand is Blue Jeans Cable:

I haven't tried them yet, but have heard very good things about them from other forum members...
