    VCR and DVD troubleshooting

I am having trouble w/ both my VCR and DVD player - maybe it's time for a combo unit.

The VCR is a vintage 1995 Mitsubishi HS-U560, which was a high end $450 unit when I bought it. Lately it started squealing when trying to start tape transport, and finally quit. It sounds like a belt or gear slipping, not able to pick up the tape, and then it just stops trying. Any ideas what this is? Is it worth fixing?

The DVD is a Pioneer DVC-503 5-disk changer. The problem w/ it is that the tray shuts immediately upon opening; it will not stay open. You have to be really quick! What's w/ that? Worth fixing?

    Recommendations on DVD/VCR combos?

    Thanks,

I enjoy my JVC HD/DVD/VHS recorder (DR-MX1S). The built in hard drive lets me record hours at HD or mega hours at CD or lesser grades.
Here's a link to where I bought mine.

Also a link to a few other choices.

There are plenty of other places to buy these. But this is a good start to see what you may like.
