    Sounds like snake oil.....

I ran across this article at stereotimes.com about the Schumann effect. It sounds like someone is praying to crystals and drinking too much wheat grass (actually that does taste pretty good) - but anyways -

Anyone here try any of these little critters? The Ron Kemp Schumann Resonance device is only supposed to be about $300 I read here.

    Opinions?

In 1952, physicist Winston Otto Schumann mathematically predicted the earth's electromagnetic resonant frequencies at 7.83, 14, 20, 27 and 33 Hz. There's plenty information on the Internet about how the human resonant frequency is affected when it is in, or out of, tune with the Schumann resonance. It is argued that our natural resonant balance is in misstep with our beloved planet because of intense radio waves produced by computers, cell phones, microwaves and other types of electromagnetic devices. When perfect balance is restored the effect is peace of mind, body and spirit...and a better sounding audio system. Wikipedia writes, "Interest in Schumann resonances extends beyond the domain of geophysics where it initially began, to the fields of medicine, art and music, and to bioenergetics, acupuncture, and psychobiology. The idea that naturally occurring Schumann resonances, which are many orders of magnitude weaker than both the artificial fields in such studies and typical environmental fields, could yield similar effects is conjectural and highly controversial."

    smells like

    scientificamal bs

There may be some truth in these concepts but what percentage of influence do they have relative to all other considerations?

How much time and energy do we spend looking for that extra 1.3 percent?
There's money in that and many venders know it.

"provide a richer more detailed and holographic sonic experience.

pardon me but in audio how do you define holographic?

Will I see Princess Lea? Hope so. Great buns, I'll buy in then.

I've raised my cables from the floor (2 inches, exactly, think Rainman here),
moved my speakers a billion times (twist here, move here, cha cha cha)..

I've found that if I I fugeddaboutit I enjoy my sound more.

It doesn't matter how far-fetched a tweak is, some audiophile will report that they bought and tried it, and that there is a "huge", "immediate" impovement. A typical improvement claimed is "greater three-dimensionality" or something like that, which you might call "holographic".

My personal favorite is Brilliant Pebbles from Machina Dynamica.

Can'tcha get the same results by placing a quarter on top of each speaker??

Is that from the edge of the coin or the center? I mean, I don't know....I mean, do they have to be silver? Or can they be modern-day states quarters? I have some vintage 1985 quarters that I found in Craigslist. I used to have some 1965's, but traded them. Can I use dimes?*

    *Sorry. Had an SVI moment...

In a bizarre way, I love SVI moments.

Event: Synergistic ART System, Power Conditioner, and Cables
Posted on March 18th, 2009 by Bob

art.jpgLast Saturday, we had another great event, this time featuring two technologies that would drive by-the-numbers audiophiles batty:

    * A room/acoustic treatment system consisting solely of small metal “cups”; and
    * Cables whose outer layer contained a powered “EMF” element.

Say what? How could these designs possibly affect the sound at the listening position, let alone improve it? Well, subject to a couple of small caveats, about 30 audiophiles agreed that they did effect changes for the better. (This is tantamount to blasphemy in some folks’ minds, cf. these forum threads: Stereophile 1, Stereophile 2 and AudioJunkies.)

First, the ART system. Synergistic CEO and designer Ted Denney began with a fascinating tale of their genesis that included single-handed trans-oceanic sailing, Buddhist temples, and advanced metallurgy. Then on to the demonstration, wherein we played various tracks with and without the various ‘ART pieces’ (couldn’t resist). And damned if the didn’t make a difference - often a big one and almost-always for the better (IMO). To my ear, the more bass content in the piece, the better ART worked.

OK, but how do they work? Resonance, of course. The little devils vibrate and - like Shakti Holograms or absorbent panels - when placed in strategic positions (e.g., first-reflection points) they diffuse the reflected sound field. Thus, the ear gets more direct sound energy and the brain is less confused. Not as exciting as magic, but cool nonetheless.

As for the Tesla cables and PowerCell, we did not have the opportunity to compare them to anything, and so few real conclusions could be drawn. We did hear them in the powered and unpowered state, and the system sounded much better with them powered (as one would hope). But who’s going to buy them and not power them? Kinda like listening to an electric guitar without the amp. It plays music, but….

We thank Ted and Jason, and wish Synergistic Research the best. You can learn more about Synergistic here.

Of course the 1st thing I thought of was....

Any of our AudioREVIEW members at the event and can give a personal semi objective opinion?
