HK 3480 and CS 99a's

Hi. I'm currently using a Harman Kardon 3480 2 channel stereo receiver as main home entertainment receiver. I have it hooked up to my Widescreen Toshiba HDTV via fixed audio outs. Components include satellite receiver, dvd player, PS2, vcr, etc. I've been reluctant to upgrade to a new digital 5+ channel unit, and Santa delivered the 3480 for Christmas. I robbed one of my two sets of my Pioneer CS 99a's off my old SX-1250 to use with the 3480. I really like these old speakers, but just want to make sure they are suitable for the new stereo, and that tv/dvd listening wouldn't have any ill affects on them. They are 100 watt, 8 ohm, 6-way speakers. The 3480 specs are 120 Watts per channel, 20Hz – 20kHz @ <0.07% THD, both channels driven into 8 ohms.

as long as everything is connected properly. I use an HK 3375 in a simpler av setup and it sounds great. How do your Pioneers sound? Enjoy.

They sound really great. The horn and two super tweeters create realism very well for both watching tv and listening to cd's. I really love these old speakers. The v-max selector on the HK receiver is great for watching movies and HBO. It gives the effect of 5.1.

I've been playing around with the idea of upgrading to the 3480. This v-max selector sounds very interesting. I think I'll start looking a little more seriously. Thanks for the info.
