the thing is i haven't heard the two to compare, so if anyone knows anything about these two that would be great. The polk's are on sale at Fry's for $159 a pair, and the sony's are $200 at costco. what are your opinions.

I haven't heard either, but I have heard the polk R30's which are the same thing only with a single 6.5" woofer, and they didn't sound bad.I liked the highs a lot.I've never heard a sony speaker I liked, even the es towers a friend tried to trade me for my paradigms. Those R50's used to go for $550,I'd grab em.

that's just crazy! just curious but do you remember which store that was?? anyways, currently i have a pair of cheap Pioneer towers that i bought at circuitcity, i'm not sure of the modle number but i'm just looking for a a more bright, and punchier speaker, i guess it's kinda hard for someone to give a comparison if i don't know the model number of my current towers huh?

It was circuit city that had them for $550 a few years ago. They were over my budget so I listened to the R30's instead. They sounded pretty good, especially when playing metal. They were the 2nd best out of the speakers I looked at then.I ended up going with paradigm phantoms instead. You wont find those for $159 though. The Polk's have a silk tweeter which is generally less bright than metal dome's.What does your pioneers have for a tweet?

The Polk's are listed at only playing down to 50hz,but pioneer and most major electronics makers are known to be generous with their frequency response specs. The Polks should sound a lot better, but I've never heard the pioneers.I wouldn't doubt it if your pioneers sounded better than the sony's.Your best bet is to go and listen to the polks,or any speaker you're looking at.I'd stick with brands that ONLY make speakers. For $159 I'd have bought the polks in a heartbeat.
