I currently have a Rotel RSDX-02 {5 x 80 watts into 8 ohms} reciever powering my B&W 705's. I want to get an amp to power the 705's; any suggestions? Also, I am going to get a matching HTM7 center channel. Any suggestions for a sub to round it out to a 3.1 system? Price range is between $300-$600 for the Amp and $300-$1000 for the sub... Happy New Year All.....

I think your budget here seems all wrong, but if you must then I will suggest that you visit Mr. Panasonic and buy XR70 or XR50, I think it is best that you can do at the price. At the price you are gunning for, the digital amplifier are better placed to do a very good job.

I agree with the above. Looks like your total range goes from $600 - $1600. I'd say, if you were to spend $400-$600 towards a sub and $800-$1000 towards an amplifer, you'd be much better off. Not to say that you can't get a good amp for $400 - $600, but just be aware that there are many excellent subs for around/under $500 and a higher quality amp is going to make a heck of a difference. Two that are constantly mentioned here are the HSU-VTF-2 and the Adire Audio Rava. I haven't heard either but I hear that both can play very loud and very clean. Also, you can look at the entry level 25-31 pci or 20-39pci ($549/$599) which are both suppose to be awesome subs as well. Now, if you're talking about used amplifiers, which you can find on audiogon.com, ebay, etc, you might be able to find alot more for your money and may be able to get a quality amp for your previous price range. I don't know all that much about dedicated amps, so I'll let someone else answer that portion of it.

Anyways, in short, look to spend a bit more on the amp if you're going new, as, IMO, that will make the most impact.

Good luck!
