View Full Version : Upsampling HDMI DVD players - NY Times comparison

For whatever reason, the NY Times has devoted a LOT of coverage to HDTV the past couple of weeks, and for the most part these articles provide a lot of very useful information on the topic. In yesterday's edition, they included an article about upsampling DVD players and evaluated a group of them.

Basically, upsampling DVD players are the ones that come with DVI or HDMI outputs and upsample the DVD signal into an HD output. It does not add resolution, but these players have features that smooth out the image for an HDTV. As with a lot of previous DVD player comparisons, the NY Times article picked a Panasonic unit as the best all-around player. They also liked units from Denon and Sony, but noted drawbacks with each of them. The oft-mentioned Samsung model they did not like as much.
