I may have over 50 of store bought VHS movie tapes, and I really don't know what to do with these VHS tapes. I could record them to a DVD using a burner (which I don't have), but why waste time and money when quality of video on VHS is mediocre at best-not to mention sound :)

So should I throw them away

Do what I did bear type individual with non burnt home, I gathered up all of my tapes(300 tapes mostly widescreen VHS) and sold them at a flea market. Made about $175.00, and made extra space for more DVD's. I quickly filled that space with the money I got.

Thanks for the suggestion bro :)

Since I bought a DVD player while back, the VCR and the tapes are collecting dust big time. There is just no comparison between two formats. VCR will probably be next on the list to go :)

I don't even have mine hooked up any more. There's still a market for VHS with porn but that's about it. And it's shrinking. Remember when you too could be the first one on your block with a VCR? How big, clunky and heavy they were. Top loading monstrosities and the novelty was such you recorded damn near everything.. Now it sits unused in the bottom of the rack. Sigh, wonder what my usefull half life will be. The VCR era lasted less than 25 years... amazing.

In my home, the vcr in the family room system is used for Halo2 shootouts. XBoxes are brought in from the kids' rooms (along with an extra tv). It's easier to get stereo by going in the vcr's front jacks than going into the back of the amp.

However, I do have quite a few movies that simply aren't available on dvd, but haven't taken the time to burn them to DVD-R.

I still think it's worth it to keep a quality vcr on hand. We used a rental property on the beach over Thanksgiving. I brought the usual vhs family collection - The Ghost and Mr. Chicken, Golden Voyage of Sinbad, and For a Few Dollars More. After watching The Ghost and Mr. Chicken on the cheap Emerson vcr, the damn thing ate my tape when I tried to rewind it. I'm keeping my quality Mitsubishi and Sony vcrs for a while. There's nothing I hate more than a cheap vcr!

I remember the first time I watched porn on a DVD player. Almost fell out of my chair. There was too much details :D

Another reason to get rid of VCR :)
