Its a computer connection to download update feature of the receiver.Pat.P

One other note, just because it is a serial connection that you can easily connect to your computer (if the computer still has a serial port, a lot of new ones don't), it is not very usefull w/o the corresponding software.

This port is typically only used by authorized company techs, although you can download some interesting tools out there that can capture and upload software to the receiver. That said, one could really damage a receiver that way too, and I doubt the warrantee would cover that.

its' mainly for a control system i.e. Crestron; some receivers have it for firmware upgrades and some strictly for service issues via authorized technicians
