Is there such thing as an affordable outboard D/A converter? I am starting to think that considering I use my computer for both my cd player and mp3 player, I should use it's digital out, and run it into a decent D/A converter, then into my preamp.

I figure this way I will bypass whatever garbage D/A is in my soundcard.

Anyone know of some good D/A converters, new or used, for less than $300?

I've read some things about the item below. Apparently it has to be modified to perform in a home system, but I'm not sure. I wish I could tell you more about it, but maybe you can find compatibilty info better than I can. It's the ART DI/O. The ad is from musician's friend.
