My home theatre is in a finished basement with a laminate/wood floor. The total size of the room is 40x20 but the actual listening space with the theatre set up is 25x15. Can anyone recommend a sub for this area? I didn't want to spend over 500 canadian which is around 400 US unless its reallly reallly worth it. I'm 25 with friends that come over to watch movies all the time. We like it when the whole house vibrates but we also like sound quality too hehehe Anyone recommendations? Thanks for the help.

Maybe consider the SVS PB10-ISD.

Since you live in Canada, you may want to look at Paradigm's subs. They have some nice ones and I've heard Paradigm products are considerably cheaper in Canada than they are in the U.S. This might allow you to buy something larger in your budget than a U.S. seller could provide - which is important given the size of the room you'll be energizing.

Hey,
I was considering that one. I also went to a local shop and was offered a demo Velodyne CHT-12 for 450 Canadian (about 360 US i guess). Anyone have comments as to what they would prefer between those 2? I'm also considering just getting some kind of Paradigm.
Thanks Again

If you're going to get a Paradigm sub in a room THAT size, you'll want to get the PW-2100 or more AT LEAST...otherwise, I suggest you look for something with alot of power.
I still can't think of anything better for the price than the 12" MKIII Kit from Partsexpress.com.
That is definitely what I'd recommend. I built one for my parents, and it was better than the PW-2200 I have in a few ways, though not going quite as low, for the price it was unbeatable.
For $500 canadian though, SVS, HSU Research, maybe a Velodyne, or something used.
Good luck.

Those are some nice beefy suggestions. I like the idea of building the sub yourself. Seems like fun.

If just the cone is blown you may consider just replacing it only.
or if your intrested in replacing the cone the Dayton Titanic is a great replacement cone. Or if interested in building one yourself the below link has a good kit. And they ship to Canada.

I'm pretty sure its just the cone thats gone but its only an old 65 watt rms pioneer sub anyways. The thing did a great job situated in a corner of my basement especially for the price, but i suppose having it cranked all the time for that size of room killed it. For the price i paid for the entire system 2-3 years ago (480 bucks canadian with a 550 watt receiver, 5 half decent speakers and sub) i can't complain.
