The time is nearing where I need to run wires for my surrounds. The only thing I can come up with is to cut a hole in the carpet and floorboard run the wire under the floor in the basement, and then have them resurface in the locations of where I want the speakers. Do they make fixtures that you can plug in to when you run under like that or is there an easier way to run wiring for surrounds?

It makes your task so, so much easier. This is how I did what you are doing with the exact same scenario.

Simply pull away just about 1/2" of carpeting from the wall moulding. Then, use an 132 (or whatever it takes) and drill straight down at the junction where the floor meets the wall, but try not to kerfutz up the moulding.

Then, take an electricial snake (or a straightened out coat hanger like I use) and push it UP from the cellar. Attach the cablewith electricial tape and pull it down. Leave more than enough than you think you will need above.

Keep the cable/snake attached for now. You'll need it again.

Repeat the drilling/pulling process from the other side of the run but, obviously, you will need to insert the snake from the top and pull the cable up.

When you have enough cable on both sides of the run, you can push the carpet back down and, asideform the cables sticking up, the work shound be invisible. At lease it is for me.

Then, affix the run to the basement ceiling if needed. If it has a drop ceiling then that should not be necessary.

Well my basement isn't finished. If I drill through the floorboard, I could see the basement floor. So I don't think any snaking will be really needed. :) The location of the surrounds are not near a wall. Well actually, one is... but the other one isn't. This is just going to be wonderful! I:)

This the speaker wire I was planning to use

I could get some of that tape looking wire if it would be easier.

VERY EXPENSIVE WIRE TO RUN UNDER FLOOR?DEPENDING HOW FAR YOUR RUNNING THESE WIRE TO THE OTHER SIDE GET THE GOOD GAUGE! I BOUGHT THE 12 GAUGE COMMERCIAL SPEAKER WIRE AROUND 1.80 A METER AT HOME DEPOT AND PUT A SPEAKER BOX ON BOTH WALLS AND FROM THERE I PLUG OTHER WIRE TO MY SURROUND !PAT.P :)
