Receiver Q's

I don't own a receiver right now and am looking to buy. I just bought a speaker set(Cerwin Vega AVS-5.1). As you can probably tell I don't have a lot of money to spend for a receiver. Since I have a 5.1 speaker system does it make sense to buy a 6.1 receiver? Will it still work? :confused: I'm a complete noob so any help will be appreciated.

Hello hakjak!

I believe most 6.1 HT rec'rs can turn off the 6th channel if you wish.

But with a 5.1 speaker system maybe you could pick up a used or discontinued 5.1 rec'r, get a better one? I'm not the specific recomendation guy, but many I respect here like Yamaha a lot, and my experience with them is bulletproof.
