It appears that all the screens on HDTV's that are 27" and under $700 are norma 4:3 shaped not widescreen 16:9. As such does this mean I won't get the best possible HD picture broadcast and I'm better off getting a 30-32" one with a widescreen? Any recommendations (27" and/or 30")?

Check out the link below. It is a 26" WS HDTV and has builtin HDTV tuner so you can get local HD without a set top box.
It is 699.99 - 50.00 (click digital coupons) = 649.99 and is one inch less than you were looking for.
The Samsung is a good set.

I did see the set you mentioned and am considering it but hope to get a better price on that. Is Samsung a good brand? I thought you can only use the digital coupons for later purchases at Best Buy not on the puchase itself. In regards to the built in tuner this is where I'm confused. As far as I know, I still need the HD Digital box to get shows like HBO and Showtime in HD. Can I continue using the cable HD box with this set? Also for some insane reason Time Warner does not include the WB and UPN (Sorry white is beautiful and only show I watch is Star Trek Enterprise on it) on its digital broadcasts. Will I then be able to see the WB and the "white", LOL, UPN in HD or so I still need some kind of external antenna or something? Thanks

I am understanding that you can use the coupon on that purchase. Samsung is a good brand for the money and a darn good set for the bedroom in fact I am planning on buying it myself for the beadroom. For premium channels like HBO yes you will still need the set top box. With an external antenna you will be able to pickup UPN and WB (smallville HD rocks)
go here to out what is what antenna you need.

Most of my local over the air HD has an excellent picture & sound.

P.S. yes you can use the HD cable box with that TV

Your right it is for future purchases (that's weak)

If you find a better price send let me know.

If I see a good price on this one I'll let you know on the board and also send you a private message. Let me know if you've purchased it. Thanks
