Am thinking of purchasing a TH-42phd6uy by Panasonic.

Any Comments? Good Buy, Bad Buy?

Also,

I am debating on "HD" digital cable versus Dish Network or Direct TV.

Any comments are welcome from the experts.

first of all the model you're refering to is discontinued; Second, the model you're considering is a industrial PDP i.e. no tuner, on speakers, BNC connections, and requires additional "plug-in" boards for your particular application. Third, since this model falls under Panasonic Broadcast division, warranty and/or repairs can be tricky- be very careful as to whom you purchase it from.
If your particular needs require a Plasma display, might i suggest the consumer version -th42px25up. When all is said and done this model would run a little more than the industrial unit but you'll gain a whole lot more ( ATSC tuner, cable card slot, media card slot, HDMI inputs, etc...).

Based upon a lifetime of working on the insides of TV sets, I would strongly urge you to not buy any Panasonic set - regardless of model # or type of display. The servicing of them can easily turn into an absolute nightmare! Is there any sound reason why you're contemplating a plasma display rather than some other type? I consider plasma displays to be at the very bottom of the list when it comes to value.

As to the choice between "HD digital cable" or Dish Network, that would depend on the individual cable system in your area. Sorry, I cannot be more specific on that one.

Hope this helps you
