Need help setting speakers?

I have Polk RT55i main speakers set to small and have a Velodyne sub.hooked up direct.
Seems like having the polk mains set to large sounds better.
I was told to set them to small.
Any help with this?

Setting your speakers to small should give you a subtle improvement in your mid-range response. The receiver doesn't have to work as hard by sending the low bass frequencies to the sub giving you more unused power. However if your speakers sound better to you set at large, that's okay.
