Not trying to be morbid, but we have lost a lot of Musical talent through the years.

Who have you seen in Concert that has lost a band member?

Here are some of the Bands, I've seen that have lost somebody...
Rory Gallagher
Thin Lizzy (Phil)
T-Rex (Marc Bolan)
Lynard Skynard (Plane Wreck)
Lords of the New Church (Lead Singer)
Camel (Peter Bardens)
Foghat (Lonesome Dave)
Clash
Supersister
Solaris

well for starters I was able to see AC/DC with Bon Scott, Led Zepplin with John Bonham
Ozzy with Randy Rhoads.

we have lost a lot of people over the years. it is kinda sad. most of them were overdoses or stupid acts. as in all of the above concerts i have seen.

imagine what the 70's and 80's would have been like if we hadnt lost janice joplin, jimmy hendricks, bon scott, john bohnam or randy rhoads.

I saw Skinny Puppy 2 times before Dwayne Goettel died (heroin OD).

I saw Janitor Joe a few times with future Hole bassist Kristen Pfaff (heroin OD)

I saw the band Surgery a few times before their singer Sean McDonnell died (asthma related)

One of my favorite bands, Acid Bath broke up soon after their bass player Audie Pitre was killed by a drunk driver.. luckily I got to see them a few times. They were just amazing, if you like gothic southern-fried death metal.

no big stars really though.

Missed Cliff Burton
Missed Bon Scott
Missed Randy
Missed Ian

though I was very young when those people died..

would have liked to have seen Nirvnana.. oh well.

Too many to remember them all without really thinking hard, several of the more notable ones:

Hendrix, Joplin, Canned Heat (harmonica dude, Owl?), Lynyrd Skynyrd, original Allman Bros Band, Spirit, Dead, Steve Goodman, Quicksilver, John Lee Hooker.

That was his name, Stiv, I recall him being hit by a car in Paris

the self-annointed "greatest bass player in the world" from Weather Report to name a few. I can't remember some of the others, although I know there are more. I just need to think about all the friggin' shows I've seen over the years, and my mind is a bit (ahem) muddled when I try to remember those days.

I saw the last two Grateful Dead concerts, July '95 in Chicago in the month before Jerry died. I will always remember them fondly. Jerry performed a gorgeous version of "Visions of Johanna" on the first night that especially stuck in my mind because it's always been one of my favorite Dylan songs and it was well done in his gentle style. The versions played of "Sugaree" and "Touch of Grey" I also still remember.

1. One Four Top

2. 3 or 4 Temptations

3. Minnie Ripperton.

4. Percussionist for War, the big guy that died..

Not that many. Many of them that I wanted to see before they died, I never got to see.

Roy Orbison--1987
Lords Of The New Church (Stiv Bators)--1986
Johnny Thunders & Jerry Nolan (and Tony Coiro)--1990
Joey & Dee Dee Ramone--1985-1996
Sun Ra--1992
Grateful Dead--1993
Johnny Cash--1992
Echo & The Bunnymen (Pete De Freitas)--1986

Um, I saw KISS a few months after Eric Carr died, does that count? How about Barry Bonds' father Bobby when he played with the NY Yankees in 1975? I'm probably leaving someone out here, and I'm sure I've seen some bands that had some members that died that I wasn't aware of, either...

Keith Richards of The Stones...wait a minute...is he dead, or does he just look dead?I think he's technically died like three times (full blood transfusion), which makes him "undead". Which isn't the same as dead.

I'll bite...
Nirvana - Toronto (November 1993).
Alice In Chains - Vancouver (1992 - August? July?)
AC/DC - Winnipeg (1989/90, geez, can't remember the month)

Hmmm...I think that's it...
Oh, wait, I saw M.C. Hammer too...is he dead?

edit: Just though about it, I never saw Scott in AC/DC, guess that doesn't count

You're thinking of Blind Al Wilson, so named for the big round specks he wore.

I saw Spirit also, but California wasn't with them at the time.

I think he's technically died like three times (full blood transfusion), which makes him "undead". Which isn't the same as dead.

But his brother John, who was the drummer, is. So count John Panozzo for me.

I'm sure that there's more, but the ones that immediately come to mind are...

Mick Ronson
Freddy Mercury
John Denver

I would have liked to see Big Country with Stuart Adamson. Didn't he drank himself to death?

Mr MidFi
09-10-2004, 01:45 PM
No, I think Stuart Adamson killed himself to death.

Off the top of my head, the only ones I can think of are Joe Strummer of the Clash and Stevie Ray Vaughn. And Phil Collins, who's dead to me anyway.

I forgot one too...a biggie!

Ray Charles

I saw him at a basketball gym on Ft. G.G. Meade, MD when I was stationed there back around '75 or '76. It was a weird place to see an icon, but it was more intimate than most venues would've been, and Ray was in fine, fine voice. He talked to people in the crowd, told jokes, and performed every song I'd hoped to hear. I've never heard a better singer.
