or were there ever any?
topspeeds post on hobbies and other interests has led me to post this question. i have pondered it many a saturday night.
but first, a background:
at my local Round Table Pizza restaurant, where i was buying a pizza one saturday night, i stumbled upon something surreal. there was bidding and an auction taking place. the restaurant was crowded. but what struck me even more was that the items being auctioned and subsequently bid upon were nothing more than fish. live fish. i swear this is all true. i couldnt understand what my eyes were seeing. at this pizza restaurant was a bi-monthly convention of fish collectors. ranging from pet shop owners to academics to engineers and hobbyists trading, selling, purchasing fish. of all sizes from all over the world. i was so intrigued that i began speaking with a man that was there for the convention. the club as it were. i found out a lot that night. he swore that when he first learned about an aquariam fish club he thought it was a bunch of geeks getting together on a saturday night. he told me that he soon found out that many of them held doctorates, and that the engineer had the best house with over 20 aquariams. that is when he realized they werent geeks at all. he then asked me how long ive been a member. thats when i said goodnight.

anyway, it is a story worth sharing i think. but it brought me to ask a very serious question: where are all the audiophile club meetings being held at? how come there are AA meetings, Weight Watcher meetings, Book clubs, poetry clubs, even aquarium fish clubs and meetings, but there are no audio/video meetings? dont we have needs?

Are there any? I live in the Bay Area, CA. wanna start one? let me know.

cheers.

Try taking a look over at Audio Circle (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?page=2) in the regional circle section. They have a So Cal Audio Rage club (http://www.audiocircle.com/circles/viewforum.php?f=72&sid=91cab0d6641917d14919ee1eaa93812c), with some real nice folks and some nice equipment too.

Another area to check out is AudioAsylum (http://www.audioasylum.com/audio/index.html). Just post a question asking if there are any clubs in your area...they've got a ton of members and visitors and you may just find a group you enjoy.

Oh, you've also got the Southern California Horn Group. From what I understand the meetings are open to anyone to attend and they always have fun :) I'm not sure what other speaker systems they have at their meetings...but I know that Dr. Edgars TiTan system is worth a listen. Keep an eye open for meeting in the H.E. forum (http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/hug/bbs.html) at AA.

good luck!

thanks gofish, but im not that interested in finding an audio club that ib be willing to drive 6 hours to get to. SoCal is very far away. but i will check the Audio Circle out. Id have to say im not a big fan of AA because of the layout of the threads. its not as easy to maneuveur there. but, when information is needed, they are a class-act. however, i have a fondness for audioreviewers. it is the first site i ever came to when i started looking into becoming an audiophile some 4 years back.

Hey Nusic,

I'm in the Bay Area too, maybe we should think about putting one together. There's at least a couple Bay Area guys here, and I know there are more over at AudioAsylum.

anybody else interested in that??
