No, not quite beer drinking time yet since it's just turning noon in my part of the universe, but help find some new beer to try this weekend. I'm gonna try and pick up an Imperial Stout, probably a Samuel Smith's since that might be the only one I can find. Had some of that thick dark brown elixir once before and it was pretty memorable. Feel the urge to try it again. Maybe need something lighter to follow it up with so give me some suggestions for a good winter ale or a pilsener or lager or ....? Any and all suggestions welcome and appreciated, but if you have something that is available outside of your own little burg, all the better.

Rogue Mocha Porter or Rogue Shakespeare Stout, if you like the drinks with the viscosity of motor oil. My favourites.

How did you get that beer to be to the left of your sig?

Pretty common, but if you are looking for something a bit lighter, you could try a Hefe-Weizen. I like Paulaner myself. Their Hefe-Weizen is available just about anywhere and is one of my favorites.

Then again, I drink a whole lot of domestic piss water, so what would I know?

I have always been a little partial to Abita Amber Ale. Made in Abita Springs, Loiusiana. I love this stuff. There's also Abita Turbodog which is a little stouter, but not as good in my opinion. Probably nothing compared to the Imperial though. In the Texas area, alot of people drink Shiner Bock. It's cheap and one hell-uv-a beer. It would not be considered a "exotic" though. The garage fridge is filled with it at all times.

Happy Drinkin!

Damn that Abita Amber is a fine beer, not so Turbo Dogs. Also, we too keep lots of Shiner Bock in the garage fridge. Check out Sams, they might have it, or Kroger. Avoid the Shiner Blonde.

A nice stout I'ce had recently would be McKesson's (sp?) XXX Triple Stout. Had it at a beer tasting last weekend, it was generally praised by the guys, the girls wanted to barf, so thats a pretty good recommendation IMHO. Not as bitter and heavy as Turbo Dog or Guiness, pretty smooth actually.

It's one of my favorites and, while it's not exactly motor oil, it does have a full-bodied flavor and is perfect for this time of year. Then again, you're out in sunny AZ while I'm in frozen PA, so maybe you could give two sh**s about "Winter Lager". My other favorites are all local micro-brews that you can't buy out there, so there's no point in mentioning them.

Tonight it's Pirates of the Carribean and some Sam's Winter Lager for me.

Swish Baby

I also give a thumbs up to the Rogue Porter, Stout, or Dead Guy Ale (depending on your preference). And while not new, Mr. Adams stays stocked in my garage refrigerator.

Hope it is warm and sunny in the desert. It's cold and rainy, almost snowy, here.

Bummer, I just checked and Boulevard Brewing Co. doesn't go any farther west than Kansas. They have their Pale Ale as their flagship product and it would have been perfect for your follow up. This time of year they also produce their Nutcracker Ale described as:" Nutcracker Ale is Boulevard's special offering for the holiday season. This hearty, warming brew is a classic winter ale, deep amber in color, with hints of molasses balanced by the "spiciness" of Chinook hops."

Availablity can be found here: http://www.blvdbeer.com/product_set.html

Mmmmmm, that does look good, Jimbo. Six pack in a box, cool :)

Did you upload that pic from your computer? Because if it was on the web already you don't have to attach it (which loads a copy onto this server), just use the img /img tags with [] or click the image box on the toolbar to do it automatically. Of course, some sites don't allow third party links so you'd have to attach the image here. But what do I care, anyway? :)

I drink like a fish so I drink Michelob Light.

I usually drink 45 beers a day, too.

Yes, I saved the pic to my HD and then uploaded it from there. This was my first attempt at adding a pic and if you can see it I'm happy. I finally just figured out the old board, now they go and change it. I'll go back later and try to figure out what your instructions are and try that next time around. Thanks for the pointer.

Hehehe, good luck. They don't even make sense to me! :)

Seriously, just go down to the Forum Rules box and click on either vB code or [IMG] which will take you to the how to page at http://forums.audioreview.com/misc.php?do=bbcode. There is also an "Insert Image" icon in the formatting toolbar above the text box when typing your post to make it even easier. Have fun.

Just trying the click on the "insert image icon". I think the other looks way to hard for me. If it works, thanks. If not, thanks for trying.

I like my beer to taste like beer, not honey or cherry or whatever. I also prefer lagers and my fave is Hofbrau Muchin lager. Their Oktoberfest lager is good too, although I'll take the plain ole lager if given a choice (can't always find it :( ). They have a bit of bite yet manage to stay smooth.

I guess I like the common stuff mostly:
Sam Adams (any variety)
Heiney
Fosters (ND ;) )
Corona
Harp (about as "hoppy" as I'll go)
Becks

~Slosh - snowed in and sippin' a Fosters with tentoze's mighty fine alt/country-tinged year-end comp a spinnin' :)

My favorite is Young's Oatmeal Stout. It's a stout like the Sammy Smith but it's lighter in body but still very flavorful. Not like motor oil at all. But I tend to like the stouts and porters particularly Guiness, Big Shoulders Porter, Samuel Smith's, etc. Hey, there's an idea - if they have the Imperial Stout, try the Sammy Smith Nut Brown Ale. Lighter but a nice rush/burst of flavor.

Happy drinking! I'm doing the draught Guiness in a bottle at the moment!

Give "La Fin du Monde" a try. It's a big bold brew that packs a wallop! For the Francais-impaired that name means "The End of the World". Really.

<img align=left src=http://www.anchorbrewing.com/images/christmas_2003_bottle_ns.jpg>What beermaiden link? I couldn't find one, so I did a search on got this (http://www.lovethosegifts.com/prod.itml/icOid/7582), which I doubt is what you meant.

I also got this (http://www.steincollectors.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=Steins&Product_Code=5131&Category_Code=Porcelain+-+Earthenware), and, although fun, linking to it wouldn't be half as fun.

Oh, and I almost forgot, it's time for all the Xmas brews to start coming out, so you should seek out and find at least one bottle of Anchor's Christmas Brew (http://www.anchorbrewing.com/beers/christmasale.htm), best drunk ice cold.

<img align=right src=http://www.schwarze-schlichte.de/produkte/flaschen/honig_bjaeger.gif>Currently drinking Bärenjäger, a honey-based liqueur. Dam it is good.

Chherz!!1

It's a bit strong.

Well I guess it wasn't obvious enough, hidden as the URL in my example code. But your web search turned up the same beer maiden as my web search. It is kinda scary that we tend to think alike. Not sure which one of us it should scare most, though :)

Yeah, that Anchor Steam is some good stuff. Cool bottle on that Bärenjäger. Some sake bottles have wood stops kinda like that. Do you ever freeze that stuff, or is it better at room temp?

Cool bottle on that Bärenjäger. Some sake bottles have wood stops kinda like that.Actually, hate to disapopint, but it's not woudl -- it's plastic shaped like a beehive. Still cool, though. That honey-hunting "basket" it's in is actual woven...um...whatever it is you weave when you do basketweaving, and has a working straphole on the back, just like real beekeepers do.
Do you ever freeze that stuff, or is it better at room temp?Right now I'm drinking...erm...I've drunk it at room termpeature, but it says it's better served chilled.

Woo, doggy! Best cut me off.

Woo, doggy? Hehehe, I just got back from a fireworks show and it was soooooooo cool! Right downtown, just a couple blocks away. Wow! Had a buzz going on a winter night with colorful explosions in the sky. And now back with an ice cold Sapporo and Silver Apples of the Moon. Sugar Daddy. Best song ever! I wasn't gonna put any music in this thread but tentoze already broke the silence with British Sea Power and Sun Kil Moon. Got a ? disc from Mr. Jim and Susan Clark today but haven't played it yet. Just picked it up literally minutes ago. Got the Laika jones right now and it might be awhile before that itch is scratched. Maybe a coupla days. Had the Head of Femur itch for the last coupla days, but finally got that one scratched after a few listens today. Sounds like tentoze has a Sun Kil Moon itch right now..........:)

What kinda music you been itching for lately? Anyone?

I'll drink a Guiness anytime. I love the flavor of a nice stout beer.

But a Bacardi and coke is where it's at wiff me.

I just love fermented sugar cane.

Yah, and it is way kewl, probably a strong contender in a top 10 of the year if I had had it to live with for another month or so (same for British Sea Power, which I went to grab, only to find out Unklebob has it with him out on the town celebrating birthday #21) but I just swapped back off to the new Van Morrison, and I may have to eat some of the words I typed about it on Tuesday. Sometimes I pull the trigger quicker than is prudent.

Sammy Smith does make some fine elixers, their Oatmeal Stout and Toddy Porter are also yummy, if you can get over the price ($12. !).
Besides seconding that La Fin De Monde rec, my favorite winter quaffs are Dogfish Head's 'Raison D' Etre - (see www.dogfish.com)
Voted 'American Beer Of The Year' in January 2000 by Malt Advocate Magazine. A deep mahogany ale brewed with beet sugar, green raisins, and Belgian yeast. As complex as a fine red wine. 8% ABV 36 IBU.
Also Youngs 'Luxuery Chocalate Stout' in the pub style cans is the bomb --creamy, choclatey nectar!

Well, I gotta go out and shovel the driveway. But between exertions, I've been listening to Advanced Electronics 2, a various artists compilation that me and Jim Clark would like but no-one else that I can think of offhand. Have you heard this yet, Jim? Lot of great bands on here, and weirdly some electroclash thrown in:

http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B00009AHPG.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Wire this month also came with The Wire Tapper 10 which includes everything from avant-jazz to glitch to Laibach doing dance-electro to David Sylvian to some rap and hip-hop that somehow manages to work as a compilation. This might be my favourite one from them yet.
